Kyou had made it a habit to fetch Tohru from her work whenever his own schedule permitted him to. He had opted to walk that day instead taking one of public vehicles that made their route towards her office, taking in the fresh spring breeze as he strode down the street. A man selling flowers had caught his attention as he was turning the corner, eventually persuading the young man to purchase a single pink carnation. Seeing as he had a bit of extra cash to spare, he paid and tipped the man generously before continuing his walk for a few more blocks. He twirled the flower in his hand, a smile pulling at the corners of his lips. He just knew that she was going to love it.
As soon as he saw her standing on the porch of the building with her eyes closed, Kyou made his way up the steps as quietly as he could. He stopped one step before her and raised the flower to her face, just enough to tickle her nose with it. "Stand there on your own any longer and someone might just scoop you up without you even noticing."
Tohru wrinkled her nose when the flower touched the tip of her nose, her eyes fluttered open at the sound of a very familiar voice. She paused, taking in the sight before her. It was Kyou, her fiancé, the subject of her daydreams (the thought suddenly made her blush scarlet). The confused expression she had on her face made way for an elated one. She couldn't help but shout out his name in her excitement.
"Kyou!"
A laugh escaped her lips, quickly climbing down to the step he was on in order to pull him into a hug. She couldn't help the way she felt nor the way she acted when she was around him. It was like Kyou's presence made everything brighter, more beautiful for her. She loved the warmth she felt whenever she held him close like this. There was no feeling quite like it.
Letting out a small laugh of his own Kyou carefully wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close enough to tuck her head right under his chin. Even they had met the day earlier, it didn't diminish any joy he got from seeing her again the following day. There was always something that he couldn't exactly describe about her that calmed him down and made him feel warm inside. She brought out the softer side in him, something that only his own father saw.
"Sorry if I made you wait long."
He pulled away from the hug to look down at her, the smile from earlier not leaving his face. Uncurling one of his arms from around her, he presented the flower in his hand to his fiancée. "I got this for you on the way here."
"No," Tohru shook her head, nuzzling him. "It's okay. You didn't keep me waiting."
She returned the smile, shifting her hold on him when he pulled away. At his prompting, she released one of her arms, gently taking the carnation he was giving her in her hand. She gasped, the grin she had on her face grew wider. It was small gestures like these that made her fall even deeper for Kyou.
"Oh Kyou..." she turned her head, giving him a quick peck on the cheek. "It's beautiful. Thank you."
