If Genesis' senses had been wholly present, it may have been somewhat of a shock to have heard Sephiroth's cool voice through the DreamBerry - sounding clear as day. As though he'd never really left, as though nothing at all had transpired since they'd last seen each other. And perhaps, if he could fool himself into believing just that little bit more ... As though no time had passed since they'd last exchanged words. But alas, things weren't always as simple as one might have hoped. Not that he'd ever wished them to be ( ... )

Indeed, something was quite off. Somehow, and he had no idea how he knew it was so, but he did, Sephiroth knew that this Genesis was not the one he'd encountered here before. Drawing upon what he knew of Somarium, he wasn't at all surprised, but never had he expected to witness such a thing.

Nevertheless, a SOLDIER who wasn't adaptable remained a SOLDIER not long at all, so he plastered on a cordial smile and nodded in return, taking a slow sip of coffee. Sephiroth contemplated smarting off with an opening sally, but care, not indignance, was needed here; besides, he had no way of knowing this particular Genesis Rhapsodos. Best to tread carefully.

So he set down his cup, movements precise and graceful as always, and gestured to the chair opposite. "Indeed. Please, sit." Normal baritone and inflection, roughly melodic with no effort at all. Nothing amiss, here. Not one thing.

Genesis complied, settling himself comfortably at the table. Electric blue orbs studied his old time friend in relative silence, razor sharp in their calculation and yet, at the same time - approving. Apart from that drab wardrobe, it seemed nothing much had changed with the other. Upon the surface rather, the same couldn't very well be assumed for what may have lurked underneath. But then again, he was more than willing to stay and find out. As long as his own skeletons remained locked firmly in their closets, he didn't mind peeking through keyholes to see those belonging to others ( ... )

Straight to the point, let us cut no corner. Sephiroth leaned his elbows on the table, meeting Genesis' gaze head on.

"What is the last thing you remember before waking here?"

Trite as hell, but it was the only way to cut through the posturing nonsense and get to the bottom of things. And from his altercations - he didn't dare call them conversations, as they had been anything but - Sephiroth wasn't about to be blindsided again.

Not again.
