Kelpie had also felt something odd. The change in the air, and since he was living within the waters of the lake, he actually felt the tremors before they even hit. Once the worst of it had passed, he leapt out of his watery abode and found himself come out through the fountain in Espoir. The rain didn't really bother him much so he didn't bother with a barrier of his own. The wind on the other hand was a bit of an annoyance and if he grew worse he would change his mind.
He was pretty surprised to see the wreckage and wondered where the humans were. Not that he cared. But curious just the same.
Jaina's barrier caught his attention and he turned to her.
"So you survived! Congratulations," Kelpie said with a careless attitude.
A voice - she wasn't alone. Jaina spun around, looking for the one who had spoken (her nerves understandably on edge). As it so happened, she didn't really NEED to look, seeing as the figure was, well, right behind her in open air. "Congratulations? That's an odd thing to say in a time like this."
He was pale, thin, and attractive in an otherworldly way - Jaina had the immediate sense that he wasn't human. He didn't seem hostile, but his tone was hardly welcoming.
Jaina frowned, looking back at the rubble that had moments ago been a dwelling. Still, right now, she forced herself to think of the positives. "...I never imagined I'd be so grateful to not have any possessions."
She adjusted her cloak on her shoulders, pulling the hood down now that the ice was keeping the rain from falling on her directly. "Yes, I've studied magic since I was a young girl. Is that so unusual?"
The 'where you come from' at the end was left unstated.
recently-made-homeless pharaoh also looking for group... and some sanitytimetoduelbitchJanuary 23 2009, 08:37:32 UTC
One of the few still standing homes near Jaina finally let out a distressed groan, collapsing in a heap as well... to the tune of several rather colorful curses. It's difficult to see, but she might be able to spot a short of stature young man just barely managing to scramble away from the wreckage, his wild hair instantly plastered to his head thanks to the downpour he found himself in.
The sound of the collapse - and the expletives accompanying it - caught her attention, so Jaina was watching when she saw the pharaoh scramble away from the debris that had once been a home.
She dashed over to him as quickly as she could, only stumbling once or twice on the rubble, muttering an incantation that extended the protective reach of her icy barrier around him as well - of course, it wouldn't hold out forever. "You! Are you all right??"
Yami Yuugi looked up and around and... wow, legs, boobs, hi. He coughed, shaking his head as he suppressed a shudder at the cold that suddenly surrounded him.
"Y-yeah," he said around a cough, having inhaled a little too much dust, "yeah, I just didn't expect that."
He got up, brushing off his clothing, already soaked from the brief moment he had been out in the rain. "Thanks."
Jaina reached out to extend him a hand in case he needed help getting up. "I don't think any of us expected it. It hit all of a sudden... you aren't the only one whose house collapsed in on them," she said, indicating the rubble of her own home with a tilt of her head. "Do you know if any of the others around here were inhabited? If anyone might be trapped, we need to hurry."
Unable to sleep, Kid had gone out for a walk that night- which proved to be a mistake. Now he hurried back towards home, wishing for an umbrella and some rain boots, or at least a dry change of clothing. Passing the destroyed houses, he hoped that there was still a home to go to, and that if there wasn't, that Maka was safe.
But... there was a girl in one of those houses. And in a situation like this, one couldn't not help...
"Hello?" he called, walking towards her. "Are you alright?" He stopped a few feet away, wary- he knew enough to realize that witches (which she must be; wasn't that magic she'd used to defend herself?) probably weren't out to get him here, unlike in his own world. But you could just never be too careful.
It was a boy. Barely a teenager, she guessed. Jaina wondered what he was doing out so late, and was surprisingly impressed at what seemed to be a lack of fear on his part despite the chaos around him. He was even asking if she was the one who needed help.
"I'm fine!" she called back, walking towards him and brushing a lock of wet blonde hair from her face. "Are you okay?"
Yes, definitely not a witch as he knew them- she wasn't even using Soul Protect. More or less safe, then. He nodded shortly, face impassive. "More or less. I assume that was your house that collapsed?"
"Was, yes," Jaina sighed, approaching him. "This ice shield will hold off the wind and rain for a little while," she said. "If you'd like, I can extend the range a little bit - it won't get you dry, but it'll keep you from getting more wet for the moment."

"Though your housing is another thing entirely."
He then looked back at her. "So you can use magic."
