He knocked on the huge wooden door of the Mansion, tightening the collar of his warm shirt before putting back his hand into the pocket of his coat, waiting for the door to be answered. Being outside was something he was doing a lot, but being out by day was not usual for the bartender. Working nights and then training with free-running on the roofs of the city had become like a second life for him. Breaking out of the mold was refreshing, especially if it meant spending time away from his ancestors. Strangely enough, Jessamine was the only other person he had really talked to since he had arrived. Small conversations here and there, but nothing as long as he had had with the young woman. Not that he minded, really. Having no friendship or relationship beyond acquaintances was how he had survived that long outside the Farm ( ... )

Jessamine pursed her lips when she heard that, but really, it was all an attempt to hold back the smile and the eye roll that most certainly would have been produced if it had been Will asking her that. The smile slipped up when she turned her back to him to close the door, but she gave him a little glare when she turned around.

"I do believe that if there's any sort of 'facing off' then you'll be the one to do it." She smiled lightly as she slipped her gloves on, her ever present parasol swinging from her wrist. "After all, that's why you initially offered to go on walks with me, isn't it?"

He gave a false sheepish look: "Then I hope you can run fast..."

In truth, he had strapped the Hidden Blade against his left forearm as with anytime he was going out. It had become a habit and Desmond knew how much it was telling about his becoming more and more like his ancestors. He had no intention of using it against the snowmen or Nutcrackers, but Altaïr had showed him how there was also thugs in this world and the blade was to be used against them if needed.

The swinging parasol on her waist caught his eyes and he almost smirked: he still wasn't entirely convinced Jessamine was such a damsel in distress. Still he kept that thought to himself and tilted his head on one side:

"And here I thought I was here for my exceedingly entertaining personality" he said, his lips curling into a small smirk.

Turning around and climbing down the stairs, he paused awkwardly as he waited for the blond woman. She was from the 19th century, right? Was he suppose to offer her his arm or something?

Jessamine rose a slim eyebrow at the comment but her smile grew wider on her face. "What sort of knight in shining armor will you ever be if you can only run from silly little nutcrackers?"

The parasol hit her side lightly so that her eyes flickered downwards but just for a moment. It wasn't that she enjoyed using her parasol, but ever since those vicious vegetables she had been cautious to be without it. Jessamine doubted that she would have to use it, but it was always nice to have if not for mere decoration.

A laugh escaped her lips - something she couldn't help after hearing Desmond's comment but she quickly stifled it. "Hmm, perhaps. Or it may just be that you are supposed to be making up for your earlier comment about my eating habits. She was about to start down the stairs when she noticed Desmond's pause and she smiled slightly.

"If you're wondering, offering me your arm would be lovely. I don't suppose people do that in your time any more?"
