Desmond shifted almost uncomfortably when Altaïr brought up the lack of reasons for his meagre skills. No matter what he was willing to share with his ancestors, that wasn't something he wanted to discuss. He knew now how stupid and naïve his decision to leave the Farm had been, but at sixteen, there was no way he could have understand how the fate of the world had been hanging in his hands, if his parents had ever told him so. He might wear their faces, but he was nothing like the two Master Assassins. All he had wanted was to be free and to explore the world. He had only been curious and uncaring and irresponsible, but he never really regretted those nine years outside the Order. Even if now he had to double the effort in training to help Lucy and the rest of the Assassins overcome the Templars and protect mankind

Despite himself, Desmond tensed visibly. He'd have to explain the Bleeding Effect to make sense of how being hooked to a machine could help him train. But he still didn't want to discuss how this might lead him to insanity. It wasn't something they needed to know. The last thing the young man wanted was for them to hover over him like mother hens. "Through the machine, and through the memories, the subject can...take on certain traits of their ancestors. Skills, knowledge, traits of personality. It can't train the body, but it can teach it how to perform actions that were done repeatedly in the past, even if they are hidden within a bloodline. That's how I've developed the Eagle Vision. At least, according to Lucy. That...side effect of the Animus is called the Bleeding Effect, and Lucy wanted to see if I could gain your skills through it. It's not perfect, but at least it's quicker than the traditional way

For someone who was still suspicious enough of the technology in the world that most seemed to find normal, hearing about this device of Desmond's only had him frowning more although it was a frown of confusion as he tried to make sense of words and concepts that meant very little to him or how such things would even be possible. A shame this Rebecca wasn't here too to explain it but there was one point at least he could understand and focus on.
"You said it allows you to relive memories - you have seen our lives? You have seen my life?" That was something else entirely compared to the way Ezio had heard of his life through stories and the Codex pages, and it was an uncomfortable notion because the time in his life surrounding the Apple wasn't the best time at all and if Desmond had seen that...he shook his head and cast a look over to Ezio before sighing. There was little point in keeping hidden from Desmond what would likely come out into the open at some stage and Desmond might feel hurt or angry if Altaïr kept this newest

Ezio had heard a brief explanation of the animus if he could recall, but it didn't make much sense then. Hell, it didn't make much sense now but after speaking with Minerva in the vault under the Vatican and playing with magical relics he was more inclined to believe Desmond. The idea that someone had seen his life ( especially the earlier parts ) was always a concept he was not pleased with. That meant Desmond knew all the secrets he was trying to keep hidden. All the personal things he would rather just take the grave with him if he could.
Still the Italian assassin didn't say much of anything as he watched Altair take the apple from its pouch. If one was even looking at Ezio at the time they would see him flinch slightly. Not because he wanted the apple himself, but because he felt a twinge of guilt that he couldn't get the one that had been stolen from him before he was dropped back in Somarium.
"You would do better with some actual training instead of through a machine." He said after a long pause, glancing off to one side in
There was nothing surprising in Altaïr's reaction about him knowing his life. Desmond shrugged lightly, trying to diffuse the building tension in the room:
"Some part of it, yes." It was probably a good thing for both Master Assassins that he was as discreet with the details of their lives as he was with his. He knew it wasn't his place to talk about what they had lived. It still was their memories, and he only had been an unwilling witness of them. Hopefully, this world would make him dream of moments that were part of his own life
