"It's open!" Tamaki answered as soon as he heard the knock. He would have preferred to answer it himself and let her in, but he currently had his arms full of various books and magazines that had originally been blocking the entrance way.
It was almost like the beach house all over again. "...Not a big deal?" Tamaki slowly repeated. He knew he shouldn't get angry but this was her life that had been at stake.
"Haruhi, you were kidnapped! You were lucky this time, but what if the circumstances had been different!? What if you had gotten hurt, or worse!?"
"But the circumstances weren't different, and I wasn't hurt," Haruhi argued. She'd known he would take it like this. He'd been more furious than she'd ever seen him when he walked into the warehouse, and if Hikaru hadn't thrown him aside to cut in on their embrace, Haruhi wondered if he would have let go of her.
She didn't want the situation to disintegrate as it had at the beach house, so she did her best to lower her tone. "If things had been different, it would have been a bigger deal," she admitted. "But they weren't, and I'm all right. I didn't-- want to make you worry."
"Idiot!" he half shouted as he just stepped forward and pulled her toward him, holding her tight. "Of course I'd worry about you! I always do!" Because I...
He was now pressing the side of his head against hers, his grip loosening just a bit but still held firm. "I don't know what happened then," he said, his voice lowering a bit, "but I do know that I was probably worried sick about you and would do anything to find you and get you back. There's no way I wouldn't."
Haruhi thought her heart was about to stop dead in her chest. She swallowed, hard, and-- just as she had when he'd hugged her in the same way before-- tentatively raised her arms to return the embrace. She wanted to assure him that he'd found her within minutes, that he'd acted in the same way, but the words stuck in her throat.
She leaned against him, resting her cheek against his chest. She couldn't let this drag on-- she had to tell him how she felt or her heart wasn't going to stop pounding every time they were alone. Even just to say it, one way or another... she really loved him.
A loud, unexpected yip jerked her from her thoughts. Now Haruhi's heart really stopped from the shock as a certain concerned puppy begged for attention at their feet.
Similar thoughts were running through Tamaki's head when he heard Marie's bark and feeling her tugging at the hem of his pants. Blinking in surprise, and not quite releasing his hold yet, he glanced down at the puppy who was sitting there, staring up at him. ...Or was she glaring?
...And then he realized he was still hugging Haruhi and immediately he raised his arms high, his face turning a bright shade of red.
"Ah--I--er--" he stammered before just turning and kneeling down to pick up the fussing puppy. The minute she was in his arms, she immediately jumped up to half nip and half lick him on the nose. "Ow! Marie, what was that for!?" he exclaimed, immediately forgetting the previous moment of extreme awkwardness.
She only gave him a terse little bark in reply before giving Haruhi would could be perceived as some kind of jealous side glare. But Tamaki completely missed this as he gingerly rubbed his nose.
Haruhi noticed, however, and couldn't help but stare. "Is Marie glaring at me?" she asked with some disbelief. She put a hand against her chest to try to soothe her heart; the emotion of moments before coupled with the unexpected interruption was not being kind to it.
"Eh?" Tamaki blinked as he looked Marie, who only gave him the sweetest and cutest little puppy expression possible. After a moment, he gave Haruhi a sidelong glance. "...Haruhi, there's no need for you to be jealous of a little puppy. Though I must say I am flattered," he added with his usual narcissistic flair.
He had to admit, the thought of Haruhi being jealous over Marie was a bit too cute to pass up.
"I'm not jealous of Marie, senpai," Haruhi said in irritation. "I'm not as delusional as some people."
Haruhi just wasn't the jealous type, period, and Tamaki seemed to be forgetting that she was probably the most practical person on the face of the planet. Her being jealous of a puppy would not have fit in with her sense of realism.
Ah, but this was Tamaki she was dealing with. Under far more normal circumstances, he could have continued teasing her about it, but unfortunately, these weren't normal circumstances.
Instead, he shifted Marie so that she was more comfortable in his arms and absentmindedly pet her back. "...no, no I suppose you wouldn't be," he said with a small smile. "Though I think I might."
"Of course not! I--!!" How could she be so cruel!? Oh wait, it's Haruhi, no surprise.
But still, to think she thought so little of him. He was really starting to wonder if maybe this really was a one-sided love. So with a sigh, he just turned around and started to head toward the kitchen. "...Nevermind. Do you want anything to drink?"

Well.... he was that much of a narcissist in Haruhi's head, anyway.
