[Javert, like the good example he is, has taken his seat long ago for the banquet's entirely too opulent dinner. The seat beside him, reserved for his "date," remains empty throughout the entirety of the meal. Contrary to what some may assume about him, the Inspector spent most of his life in respectable poverty... or just above the poverty line, in any case. His manner of eating reflects his poor man's background, truth be told. The man devours his meals with a certain stiff-backed dignity, adding a mountain of salt to his food where appropriate. He had never tasted the likes of this standard of food before in his living years.

It musn't be his appetite that keeps him so skinny. Oh no; rather, Inspector Javert works himself so hard that he tends to forget that he is hungry. So it goes.

He is polishing off what is left of his dessert and refilling his dwindling champagne (well, at least it resulted in some interesting stories for his table, to say the least, in a somewhat rare though not unheard of stroke of loquaciousness) when

Welcome everyone to the First Annual Police Banquet Fundraiser!! All of us down at the SCPD appreciate you comin' out tonight to join us.

First, I think everyone should give Ms. von Karma the applause she deserves for setting this event up in the first place. It would still be in the drawing room without her help. [Scattered applause inserted here.]

Before we move on to the real awards, there's been a rather generous donation given tonight. [Glances down at the cards in his hands, eyes widening at the number there.] Whoa. Yeah, this is pretty bloody generous. A Mr. Fauchelevent has just given us twenty-five thousand credits out of the kindness of his heart! Thanks a lot, man, wherever you are!
