But, he's not immortal or anything. At least, I'm fairly certain that he isn't.
He has aged since being freed, so I'm assuming that there was some sort of time-altering magic used in his cell, which... stopped time for 500 years? At least, for him, anyway.
Reply
But if time got stopped for him for that long, then that shouldn't affect how hungry he is. At least... I don't think so....
*maybe. He's not sure, but he has a different theory anyway.*
Maybe he's always eating... because he can turn into something else?
*and he seems plenty serious about this, too, finally finishing off the bit of meat in his hand*

[And Hakkai will just... check on the meat now. Because he's been a bit distracted. But it doesn't look like he's burned anything.]
Sanzo also said that while Goku was in that cave, he didn't get hungry at all. So I think, in a way, eating and being hungry is a way of knowing that he's alive. It's like breathing, to him.

*thinking, thinking...*
I wonder... you think maybe everyone that turns into something else is always hungry like that too? *He has no clue about Hakkai. Joke is on him, maybe?*

[Hakkai doesn't eat that much though. He just... enjoys cooking for people.] I suppose it depends on personality.
Do you turn into something, then?
Reply
Yeah. I turn into... some sort of horse.
*wandering over to the plate of meat that's already cooked... and carefully picks up one of the pieces that're starting to get kind of cool already.*
There were some other people from where I'm from, and they turned into things too... but they were mostly monsters. They're all gone now, though. Some of them... I really hope they don't come back.

[Hakkai smiles casually. He was expecting something much worse.]
There aren't many people who turn into things where I'm from, but as for myself... I'm afraid I really am a monster.
Reply
*What?*

You're kidding, right? You don't act like someone that eats people.
Reply
Well, I haven't actually eaten anyone... yet.
[Then he tugs at his collar a bit, because it's just one of those things he does when he's a bit uncomfortable. Is it getting hot out here?]
But I do sometimes find it difficult to control myself after I transform, especially in the heat of battle.

*a little pause again, watching Hakkai's expression, concerned*
But eating people isn't something you want to do, right? It's not like you go chasing people down in their own base to rip them up and eat them... right?
Reply
[And there's no need for Harley to worry. As long as the cuffs on Hakkai's left ear stay in place, he's fine. Hakkai won't transform unless he removes them... or someone else does. But hopefully no one's foolish enough to do that.]
However, I have chased people down in their own base and ripped them up. Although... I've been doing that ever since before I became a demon.

Did they deserve it?
Reply
I thought they deserved it.
[But he doesn't think so anymore.]

So... you can change into something... but you don't go around killing and eating people just because you feel like it.
....
How is that called being a monster?
