From a perch on a window ledge, thankfully unnoticed for now as he tried to adjust to the oddities of this world and the strange mechanical devices he had found thus far, Altaïr was content to watch the boy. He had met many pick pockets in his day as he went from city to city throughout the Holy Land and he himself had long since perfected the art of stealing important documents on his quests.
As the boy moved so did he, casting an odd shadow as he climbed up and around the side of the building, leaping to the next one to see what happened next.

Just as he was turning away, Gavroche heard the person cry out. Whoops! He'd been noticed. Grinning over his shoulder, he took off running. Though he was very small for his age, he was also very fast. Laughing as he went, he ducked through the crowd as he tucked the purse away to free his hands.
A glance over his shoulder showed him that he was still being followed. There were shouts of "Get back here, you brat!" and other things like that but he only laughed back at them.
"Can't catch me! Should have protected it better!"
He had never understood why some thieves would make such a scene when the best course of action was always to remain as silent and unnoticed as possible. Perhaps here punishments were different for that sort of thing but remembering his encounter with the inspector previously, there were evidently still punishments for wrong doing.
Jumping down easily into a crouch, he pushed through the crowds to follow the boy and it was certainly easy enough with all the racket.
Alright then. They were chasing after him now. Grinning ear to ear, Gavroche suddenly fell silent. Well, almost silent. He was still humming a happy tune to himself as he ran through people's legs. Glancing back he saw that the chase was slowing down because they couldn't hear him anymore.
Adults were sad like that.
Looking forward again, he ran and dodged down an alley.

[he was just walking through the streets when he noticed an all too familiar act being performed right in front of him. a small smirk appeared on his lips. it had been a while since he really performed any acts of thievery, mostly because he never had a need to.
so as the boy ran past him, Zidane wondered if he could pull it off:
pickpocket the pickpocket.
well it was worth a shot, right? if anything it would be fun. so first thing's first: distraction.
to do that, he just casually stepped just enough to the side to make him bump into the boy.]

[he laughed as he kept running. he was used to people bumping into him. crowded streets and a little body often led to that.
running faster now, he made a dive for a cart. best to duck under that.
why? adults where huge. they couldn't fit under there like that.]
