Lelouch sat on a bench near the center of town reading some piece of literature he had picked up at the library. He was rather interested in the military history that Somarium had, however, finding sufficient information on it was rather difficult. He sighed to himself, wondering how things were going in Britannia at the moment and wondering how his beloved sister was...
Ah, but he could not let those things bring him down. He had to make the best of his current situation - he had people to become acquainted with and maybe some of these would prove to be excellent additions further down the road. He smiled and continued reading his book.
Lelouch laughed a little bit at Asch. He couldn't help it. Things had really been put into perspective in Lelouch's life, especially with Suzaku telling him how things had progressed since his arrival in Somarium. Some people, though, just didn't take control like he did - Asch seemed like one of those people.
"I guess we are dead men walking if you think of it that way. Though, maybe you could also try making the best of your current situation. We seem saved from our ill fate while in Somarium, right?"
If Lelouch expected Asch to smile or laugh as well... well, that wasn't what he got. If anything, the redhead got almost moody, and frighteningly quiet, before he stood up, his back to him.
"...did I ever tell you," he began softly, "what Van wanted to do that made me leave his service?"
Lelouch was rather surprised at Asch's reaction, but rather interested in what the boy had to say. He felt this was a grand opportunity to learn more about this person - this could be information Lelouch could use at some point. However, if Asch expected any details about Lelouch in exchange... well, he was tough out of luck.
"Ahh... I don't believe you went into detail concerning your relationship with Van. And, please go into as much detail as you want to, Asch. I'm sure the more I know about you, the better things will be for the both of us."
Asch took a deep breath, closing his eyes as he began.
"Van was my sword instructor when I was Luke," he began. "He was also the Order of Lorelei's commandant. Considering how highly revered the Score is on Auldrant, it was more of an honor to have him as my teacher, instead of him teaching me.
"Yet even so high up in the Order's ranks, Van hated the Score, because of what it's predictions made him do. 'ND 2002; One Who Would Seize Glory shall destroy the isle of his birth, a land named Hod'... it was written in a part of the Score that was kept from the eyes of the populace by the Order, because a future that predicts death would cause calamity

"Van intended to drop the Outer Lands into the Qliphoth. As I said, the land that had been there was completely liquefied; turned into a horrible, poisonous miasma. Nothing would survive if Van had succeeded in doing that.
"With the Outer Lands and all its people gone, Van would create a new world using fomicry: a science that produces replicas."
Lelouch looked at Asch with a rather strange expression on his face. This was a name he'd never heard Asch mention before, but he figured this person was a rather important factor in his life simply by the way he said his name. Being the person that he was, Lelouch had to know more. More information concerning somebody was always advantageous.
"Mm... Luke? I don't believe I've ever heard you mention this person before. Mind elaborating further? If you don't, I fully understand. I'm just so intrigued by your past, though."
Asch blinked, before giving him a rather sheepish look.
"I told you before that my original name was Luke fon Fabre," Asch explained. "Eight years ago now, I was kidnapped by Van, who created a replica of me, allowing said replica to be taken back to Baticul in my place. That replica is Luke now."
Asch let out a small laugh. "That's a bit of an understatement," he replied. He paused a moment, trying to remember where he left off, before continuing:
"We stopped Van's plan, quieting the core's vibration and lowering the Outer Lands back to the Qliphoth. Luke killed Van, but his will still lives on. Not long before I came to this place... a replica of Hod before it was destroyed was raised to where it would be in the Outer Lands, complete with a replica of the Sephiroth that had been destroyed when the island was. It... it's not good for what little land from Hod still remains underneath the replica land... the land underneath is starting to disappear because..."
He broke off a moment, clenching his hands.
"...because two things that are the same can't exist at the same time."
Asch turned away from Lelouch then, not sure he really wanted to see the other boy's reaction.
"So... it's not the same," he said softly. "As long as Luke lives, I'm going to die no matter where I am. How fast it happens just depends on how far away we are from one another."
He shook his head. "Still, I can't hate Luke, and I don't want him to die either. He deserves to have a real life after everything that's happened, and yet... I..."
Asch paused again, shaking slightly. "I don't want to die..."
Lelouch smiled a rather wicked smile at that last statement. He thought about his Knight and how he would "Live On," he thought about that wonderful witch of his and how she would never die, he thought about his own life and how he knew it was ending soon.
"Mm... Asch, you may not want to die, but that is a part of life you have to face. Most people will face death at some point along the road and that is something you will have to eventually deal with. Obviously, you cannot stop death; however, there are various measures you can take to prolong your life. Obviously the Geass is one of those measures, but you are not fortunate nor cursed enough to have such a code... nor are you blessed enough to have the curse cast upon you... at least, not at the moment."
Lelouch paused thoughtfully, "It's good that you have such feelings towards Luke. Hating somebody who is so close to you would be absolutely terrible."
Asch let out a soft sigh, shaking his head. He wasn't about to tell him that before coming here, he made Luke's life a living hell. On purpose. Lelouch didn't need to know he was that kind of bastard before this place
( ... )
Asch let out an awkward noise, caught off guard by the sudden question. He schooled his expression quickly, though for someone like Lelouch, the answer to his question was obvious.
Ah, but he could not let those things bring him down. He had to make the best of his current situation - he had people to become acquainted with and maybe some of these would prove to be excellent additions further down the road. He smiled and continued reading his book.
The crisp, cold winter air was nice.

"You may continue when you are ready, Asch."

He paused, looking away.
"The same kind of technology that created Luke."
