[Maybe he's just tired. That's it. Tired and stressed and wanting to drop and really... not at his best. It's getting to him. No, it's already got to him. Ken has given up looking for a room that's clear of rats and has largely given up trying to get a door or a window open so he can get out of this vermin-infested dump. What he's now looking for is something he can climb up on so that he can at least sit down without the goddamn creatures trying to eat the fuck out of him and he's not having a lot of luck with that either. So here he is, in the corridor, and he's only still on his feet because he's got that plank to brace himself with ( ... )

I--I think it might've been better to stay in.

[Ken is far too tired for his words to have much, if any, bite. He simply sounds exhausted, essaying another swing with the bloodied stave that doesn't connect with anything. He lets his hand fall, the end of the plank hitting the ground with a dull thud, and tries to drag himself to something more closely approximating his full height. Shoulders heaving as he struggles to catch his breath, he gives Sena a tired smile. It really could do with being more reassuring, that smile.
[He can't remember the last time he felt so exhausted. Not since - God, probably not since that time in the scrapyard, that time they all nearly got themselves-- and this time it's just rats, that's all. Just rats. He should be better than this.]
How long've you been out here?
[Since Sena missed curfew too. But Ken's brain is too fogged with exhaustion to make the connection.]

Probably s'long as you.
[this so isn't good. Sena presses the end of the pipe into Ken's hands, reaching behind his back and fumbling for a moment or two with the clasp on the leather case holding his chakram before he manages to get it out and into his fingers--they don't want to close around the smooth handle, but he finally gets it and triggers the button that makes the two halves of the hoop slide into place.]
