His detectives intuition really wasn't up to par-- but at least he tried.
He placed a casual, somewhat caring smile onto his face as she opened the door, his cheeks red and raw from the cold. He never was a fan of the cold-- he always got sick from it, no matter how warmly he dressed up.
He slipped inside with her permission, gently settling a hand onto her shoulder in a sympathetic act of 'hey, it'd be okay'. As soon as his feet stepped inside, he began shedding his heavy coat and scarf, with his gloves and boots to come off last. Now he stood in his usual suit and gave Naomi a lopsided smile, his eyebrows knitted together with concern.
"Pretty sure he wanted to punish me for making a joke at his expense," he laughed it off, shrugging his shoulders gently. "Either way, I'm here now, right? How are you doing? ... Do you want a drink?"
Naomi might have been the host, but Adachi had every intention of taking care of her with this visit. That meant he was doubly on his best behavior-- but he didn't mind it so much this time.

As stupid as it may have sounded, the offer of a drink brought Naomi`s mind straight back to the missing young man. Yoh was always such a lightweight when it came to alcohol. Even she could outdrink him and she was terminally ill.
Still, as the slender woman moved to quickly to shut the door and keep anymore of the cold air from entering her home, Naomi couldn`t agree more that a drink sounded good. Something to further distract her. With Tohru`s company and a few glasses of anything, she`d be able to get through the day.
And one day of mourning is all she`d allow herself.
Sweetly straightening his tie, her smile never wavered. "A drink sounds fine and I supposed we shouldn`t be so surprised. A man that age has nothing to joke about."
He watched as she closed the door, her mind elsewhere whilst his was very present. He even watched as her smile stuck, and he leaned forwards to run a hand through her hair and tuck it behind her ear. He could tell the smile was forced, but everyone had their secrets, and Adachi really wasn't in the mood to ask questions.
He looked down at her hands as she straightened his tie, his smile lopsided and amused. He placed his hands on her arms and squeezed gently, slowly pulling away so that he could go and get those drinks.
"Maybe," he said with a wave of his hand. "but still, I wish he'd let up on me a little."
It wasn't like Adachi was some mass rapist, or anything.
