A flash of light.

Jaina appeared in a shower of sparks, having taken a momentary detour to acquire some of the supplement in question, which was now in a small pouch clipped to her cloak. She exhaled sharply, the momentary nausea from the teleportation fading...

...she could tell right away that Bat was having trouble controlling it. She felt sorry for him, actually - just the simple fact that it had come this far meant that he hadn't been hunting. Perhaps if he could get used to the supplement...

No, there wasn't time to think about that. He was still a very dangerous foe, and one that she should not take lightly. Jaina had of course been prepared for the eventuality that she would lose from the moment she offered the terms, but... well, she'd be lying to herself if she said the prospect of being killed and eaten didn't frighten her at all.

She inclined her head to him in a bow - there was no point in asking him if he was sure, or if he'd try the supplements without the need for a fight. He wouldn't ever agree.

He knew where she was - no point in the invisibility anymore. Jaina faded back into the visible world, blood staining her white robes from the cut on her side...

...but she couldn't drag this out. A prolonged battle would only make her weaker. This had to end.

"Frost Nova!"

An explosion of ice erupted right above Bat, in an attempt to freeze him where he lay on the ground.

He was almost off the ground again. Almost! Bat had a taste for the woman now, but he was far enough gone that he'd thrown strategy out the window. All he wanted to do was sink his claws and teeth into her.

If he'd been thinking better he might have attempted another wind spell, or anything else but a straight out attack, but he wasn't. The ice held him fast. One wing was partially free, beating frantically against the ground, but his other was solidly encased.

Blood... blood was so close, but he couldn't move! He couldn't move!

Jaina breathed a literal sigh of relief as the Frost Nova caught him. It wouldn't hold forever, but it would hold long enough. It was time to end this.

"Freezing Field."

Above Bat, little bubbles of glowing blue frost energy blinked into being... and then they swelled and burst, one by one, each exploding in a blast of magical power, but beyond that, each shattering into a hundred tiny needles that could shred flesh.

Ironically, thanks to the sheet of ice weighing him down, he'd be better defended than he would have been otherwise - so the attack that would have potentially been lethal was significantly less so.

Bat's one semi-free wing wasn't even free enough to perform half a guard. He had to move! Had to-- More shrieks filled the air as the shards descended on him, cutting off into a gurgle and a gasp. His twitching demon form falls still, and in a moment he's reverted back to human shape.

He can taste his own blood now, and it helps him focus again, thought patterns less animalistic. He was in too much pain to move, to even wrap his arms about himself to ward off some of the chill that had begun to numb his limbs. The demon refused to allow himself to pass out, even if he wanted to because of this outcome.

He'd lost.

What else was new, right? Embryon, human witch, what was the difference now? It was even beyond him to roll onto his side and attempt to raise himself up. All he could do was lay on his back and stare up at nothing.

It was only now that the adrenaline rush was fading, that Jaina wiped beads of sweat from her forehead ... that she realized just how deep the gash was. She was bleeding more heavily than she had noticed during the fight, and every step was painful, her breath ragged.

So she wouldn't step.

In a flash of light, she materialized at Bat's side, and she... really did take pity on him. He, like the Embryon, was prey to this curse. Jaina placed a hand on his chest and then moved up to take his pulse, making sure his vital signs were still strong. Then, she reached into the pouch she had with her (it was soaked with her blood. Would that affect the supplements at all?) and withdrew one of the white wafers - it, too, was red with her blood.

"Here," she said quietly, holding the food up close to his mouth where he could get at it.

Suddenly, the scent of the woman's blood was stronger than his own again. His head lolled towards her, eyes wide. As sliced up as he was, all he managed to do was bat an arm weakly at her. His face twisted into a scowl for a moment, but the offered food caused that to falter.

His vision was a bit blurred. All he saw was red, and all he smelled was her blood. Before he could even think about what he might be biting into, he'd snapped at the supplement. Hunger momentarily overrode his hang-ups and he grabbed her wrist with one shaky hand. It wasn't a very strong grip - easily pulled away from (which she would probably have to do before he bit fingers).

Jaina forced herself to not pull away reflexively right as she was grabbed - she made sure he had the food in his mouth first before she wrested her wrist out of the man's grip.

And that was that. Hopefully that would sate his hunger for the time being, and... maybe prove to him that the scientist's creations weren't all that bad.

Jaina stood up, ignoring the shooting pain that stabbed at her side, and leaned against a concrete wall to catch her breath - though she didn't notice that the Dreamberry was transmitting until a few moments later, when she shut it off hastily.

"Don't move."

The tone the Prince spoke in commanded all attention, no doubt a trait inherited from King Terenas himself. Arthas held in his hand his hammer, which already surged with righteous holy light. There was blood...and a man eating something from the palm of Jaina's hand. The man would be dealt with shortly...Jaina needed to be tended to first.

The hammer continued to glow as he hurried to Jaina's side and knelt beside her, brow stiff with worry. Should Bat even consider moving far...well, Arthas would figure that out when the time came. The weapon would be set aside -- only for a moment -- as the glow suddenly enveloped his hands. The gauntlets were removed and, without waiting for permission from the archmage, the paladin began to run one hand across the slash to mend it, the other taking her wrist to check vital signs.

"What happened?" Arthas demanded, struggling to keep his voice from shaking with both anger and terror. A venomous glare was sent in the way of Bat.

The demon coughed, partially from his injuries and partially because he'd choked down the supplement a bit too fast. The taste of Jaina's blood had helped it go down, but it wasn't flesh - wasn't nearly as delightful to swallow. It did do as promised, though. The hunger faded greatly, enough for him to more properly come to his senses in time to realize they'd been joined by someone else.

This hadn't been part of the bargain. Was this man going to kill him now? He finally forced himself to sit up on his elbows, light-headedness causing him to squeeze his eyes shut for a couple moments. If either of them wanted to take him out right now he'd be helpless to stop them. Is that what she'd planned from the beginning?

The marking on his arm glowed, but he couldn't quite manage the transformation. He was too tired and beaten. He just watched the two of them warily, not even returning the glare Arthas was giving.

Jaina actually started a little at Arthas' voice - she hadn't been expecting him. And as she moved, she gave a little wince at the cut in her side. Even so, she recognized that look on the man's face, that gaze of righteous fury... she had brought this on herself.

"Arthas," she said less-sharply than she might have otherwise, though she closed her eyes and exhaled slowly as she felt the pain ebb away, replaced with the familiar tingling of a healing spell. Jaina was grateful - she really was ... but she also knew that the Prince had a tendency to jump to conclusions.

"There's no need to get angry. Calm down, Arthas. ...please."

The Prince exhaled a sigh of relief himself once he was sure the wound was full closed, cleansed of any taint Bat may have left when the cut was made. He rested his glowing hand over the area for the moment as he composed himself. "What. Happened?" he demanded again, a little sharper than he meant to.

His eyes fell to the marking on Bat's arm. It looked similar to the one he had noted on the other demon, Gale. The two had to be related somehow...he knew it was foolish to trust anyone who went by the calling of 'demon', regardless of the world they came from.

Light be damned if he was going to allow things like this to continue to occur, especially if they threatened Jaina. Arthas moved to stand, pulling his hand from the archmage in order to pull his gaunlets back on. He was not going to show the same care to this man...but nor did he plan on fighting a weakened foe, either.

Bat had a momentary flashback to the first time the Embryon had beaten him. Like Heat, this man was surely coming over to finish him off. Reaching for a dagger would only cause him to lose what little support he had, and he couldn't sit up straight to make use of it. One of his legs was still numb and he didn't have enough strength in the other to get up and move away.

He scowled at Arthas now. Cheating bastards, all of them. "Well?" he hissed. "Go on! You've got me. Is that what you wanted?" His voice hitched at the end and he coughed again. This wasn't how things should have gone.

"Arthas," Jaina began again, her tone rather stern. "This was... an agreement between this man and myself - I chose to come here, and I knew full well what could happen." Now healed, she pushed herself to her feet, still using her staff for support.

"I appreciate your aid, but... please, Arthas." Though her wound was healed, his blessing had done nothing to soothe her nerves, and she was finding it difficult to think. "There's no need to treat him like an enemy now."

Arthas cast a look back over to Jaina, if only to acknowledge that he heard her. The gauntlets were pulled back on, half of an apology lingering in his gaze before he turned to move towards Bat, hammer shortly in tow. He loved Jaina dearly, sure, but he was beginning to get the idea that she didn't understand that certain people simply could not get along ( ... )

It had been her idea! Sure, he'd called her up originally, but the idea of facing him in combat had been hers alone. He wanted to argue with this man, but he didn't. Instead, he just kept his teeth bared and his expression angry. He wasn't going to admit that he was intimidated, not to this human.

He didn't want to be healed by him, either. Unfortunately, he didn't have a whole lot of choice in the matter. If these two didn't finish him off in his weakened state, then someone else (most likely the Embryon) might.

Still scowling, Bat nodded his understanding to Arthas. After all, that hammer was larger than his own head.
