It wasn't like he MEANT to be lurking around a place like this--well, okay, that was perhaps a lie, Regene was always lurking someplace he wasn't supposed to be. However, he really did have a purpose here. While all the important things had probably been taken away by the previous inhabitants, or looted shortly after whatever happened here...happened, there might be something left that would give him a handle on this place. The Dreamberry had been ever so helpful in this regard, sending him to the government district, and so far he'd yet to encounter anyone else.
Until now.
It was that Sergeant from earlier, a rather irascible fellow. Doakes, wasn't it? From his place on the second floor of an abandoned building (completely empty, like the other two he'd managed to get into), he rested his elbows on the windowsill, calling down.
Doakes took a break from his toil, resting his hands on his hips with a frustrated grimace. He was trying to find a building to search, in case he could run across any clues. The good majority of the places that looked as though they might hold important documents were closed up tighter than a Catholic schoolgirl's legs.
When he heard a voice above him, Doakes squinted upwards at the surrounding structures to find the source of his latest company. "Just trying to find some clues. And maybe a place to rest for a minute, shit," he called out. The man shook his head and kicked a small, stray chunk of pavement across the sidewalk.
"Don't think you'll be finding much around here," Regene called back down, chin in his hands as a smile played across his lips. "Clues or places to rest, for that matter. The buildings in that quint little village are much more hospitable, if that's what you're looking for. All that's here is concrete and dust."
With a slightly over-exaggerated sigh, Regene slid out the window, hanging by his fingertips from the ledge before dropping the last 5 feet to the ground, landing catlike in a crouch before straightening. Brushing imaginary dirt off of his tunic, he smiled wryly at the sergeant. "Disappointing, isn't it?"
"Yeah, I was beginning to figure that out for myself, thanks..." Doakes muttered darkly, feeling strangely tired despite the fact that he hadn't been all that active. He'd just woken up in a dream world, only to be harassed by talking plants, vampires, and God knows what else. It was not shaping up to be the best of days for the man.
James' expression was quickly replaced with that of shock and mild horror as he watched Regene drop from his perch, making a vain attempt to run forward and catch the younger man. He had seen and dealt with attempted suicides before, but that had been completely unexpected. Luckily, the other man didn't seemed fazed at all. In fact, he seemed eerily calm and unsettling. Doakes wisely kept his distance.
"For the most part, yeah. But I don't have room to complain for expecting logic to rule in a place like this," the detective answered, not backing away, but taking a slow step to the side. He cautiously circled Regene, as though waiting for something to happen.
Tsume was just out wandering around, stretching his legs so to speak. He really did not care who he ran into, if anyone at all, and just gave anyone he came a cross jut the barest of passing glances.
Upon seeing Doakes, however, the wolf instantly recognized the human he had "conversed" with. Perhaps it was the hunch that seeing a rather large gray wolf running around would freak him out. Maybe it was payback for what the human had said. Or maybe it was nothing and he was just going on with his business.
That didn't stop him from running past within the human's line of sight.
James realized that he wasn't getting anywhere at the moment, but he had to keep trying. When in doubt, he could always use his cellphone (still mysteriously active) and ask around about an open place to rash. Hopefully with a bed and a well stocked bar.
When something large, furry, and definitely not human darted past him, Doakes quickly spun around. He'd only seen a mere glimpse of the creature from the corner of his eye, but it had looked like a dog. Or a wolf, but he wasn't too sure about the local fauna in Somarium.
After a moment of consideration, he decided to test his theory. If it had been a dog, maybe it could help him sniff out some food. James pursed his lips together and made short, sharp whistling noises, then began clapping his hands together. "Here boy, nice doggy. Come on," he called out, waiting to see if the creature would return.
...OH HELL NO XDdistantwolfMay 8 2009, 04:56:37 UTC
Is he serious?
Tsume heard the whistling and could only stop in mere disbelief. Did that human really think he would actually come to him?
Instead, he ran to the other side, again just barely passing within Doakes line of vision and leaped atop one of the nearby roofs to stare down at him.
C'MERE TSUME, I'LL GIVE YOU A TREAT LOLspeaksinallcapsMay 8 2009, 15:33:48 UTC
"It's ok, you can come over here," he tried again in a coaxing tone, though he certainly wasn't getting anywhere. Doakes saw another flash of dark gray fur, but by the time he'd turned in it's direction, it was gone again. He was sure it was some kind of dog or maybe a feral equivalent, but there was no way to tell for sure

Bakura watches amused. This man seemed to be trying to get into the buildings and having a hard time about it. He chuckles and finally approaches the man.
"what are you trying to do?" He asks a smirk on his face.
Watch James be a jerk right back, lol.speaksinallcapsMay 7 2009, 04:09:21 UTC
James kicked the door frame to one of the municipal office buildings and cursed under his breath. At least he still had his health. His sidearm and maybe a Cliff bar would have been nice to have on his person, though. He knew that inhabitants of Somarium didn't require food, but he sure as hell could have gone for some fish tacos and an iced tea.
Doakes glanced at his latest visitor, but paid him little heed. The detective began checking the neighboring buildings as well, hoping he wouldn't have to travel too far in his search. "I'm trying to find some answers about this place. A safe place to rest wouldn't be too much to ask for either..." he answered, rattling a doorknob.
oh, this could be fuuuuun. XDseeker_of_sevenMay 7 2009, 04:15:28 UTC
Bakura smirks. "I hear there are ...apaments to live in and there is also a tavern where you can spend the night. and in the village, there a lots of...empty houses. If you don't mind the...Stories surrounding the place." he continues to smirk and adds almost as an after thought, "although, the Stories surround ALL of somarium. personally, I wouldn't want to spend the night without the security of a building around me, but then again, there's no guarentee that buildings are any safer then the open air!" He was clearly enjoying himself, taunting the stranger and dropping subtle hits about vauge dangers.

Re: oh, this could be fuuuuun. XDspeaksinallcapsMay 7 2009, 18:26:55 UTC
"Oh really? I wasn't aware of the stories," Doakes mentioned with a lazy roll of his shoulders. This place was fucked up and weird, but James had seen horrors far worse than some vague and childish Boogeyman story. Human beings seemed to enact enough evils without some 'demonic' or dark presence lurking in the shadows.
"Whatever is out there, they'll quickly learn to fear wherever I'm at," he continued, softly emitting a cross between a derisive snort and a laugh.
Mamoru had been exploring the fifth district slightly, and was on his way back to his apartment, when he saw the other man.
"It's not likely that those will open. It appears that we are meant to have access to the information that may or may not be stored in these buildings," he called over.
Doakes stopped what he was doing and dusted his hands off. That made sense, in a strange way. Hadn't Treize mentioned something about the almost sentient nature of the 'dream world' they were stuck in? "Something won't let us leave."
"I was beginning to think I should have moved on. James Doakes, Homicide detective for the Miami PD. And you are?" he asked, extending a hand to the younger man.
Mamoru shook the man's hand, his grip stronger than his thin form would lead you to believe. "Takatori Mamoru, heir to the Takatori family, and son of former police commissioner Takatori Shuichi."
James shook the younger man's hand firmly, silently impressed by Mamoru's strength. He had been expecting a limp wrist or for his own grip to overtake his latest acquaintance's, but the kid proved to be alot tougher than he looked.
"Huh. Ties to the force, eh? Small world," James commented, managing to twist the corner of his mouth into something resembling a smile. Even though Takatori looked rather young and effete, there was something to the way he presented himself that Doakes could respect, somewhat. "Which areas have you checked out, so far?"
Phoenix was making off with some food from the store (even if it was not required to eat here), when he spotted a man that looked very lost. And very frustrated. His first thought was to help the man, but then he stared down at the groceries in his arms. Letting his nosiness get the best of him, he made his way over the man.
Doakes craned his head in Phoenix's direction, idly wondering if the 'older' residents ever got tired of newcomers to Somarium. If he wasn't able to leave anytime soon, he certainly wouldn't have the patience to deal with the onslaught of similar questions.
"Just exploring. And thinking I should move on to the village area everyone keeps mentioning," he admitted, dusting off his hands on his business slacks. James arched a thick, dark eyebrow at the bag of groceries in the younger man's grip.
Phoenix stared down at the bag in his hands. He was actually caught a little off-guard by the man, because he was letting out a very 'i am annoyed okay' vibe.
"Oh, this... well, at the grocery store, I guess," replied Phoenix, shifting the weight of the bag. "It's a ways off, though. Definitely not in this area."
"I was told people don't require food here, but I had no idea any form of it was available... I actually wouldn't heading there before checking out the village. Where is it at?" James asked, his mood actually lifting at the prospect of some food or water.
