Kisame had Samehada slung over his shoulder, partially unwrapped and dripping with a dark liquid-y substance. It may or may not have been blood. It may also have been mud, but who knows, right? The majority of his face was hidden ( Read more... )

It would only be a matter of time before a chakra signature slowly revealed itself from a distant line of trees -- warm, steady, a quiet hum that was as gentle as the breeze that rustled through the leaves.

It was only there for a flash -- a moment of warmth -- before it suddenly disappeared, suppressed when it encountered Kisame's signature.

Standing was more an accurate description.

Kakashi flipped out of the tree and quickly into another one. This time his stance was guarded. Careful. Fish or not, belligerent or not, no Akatsuki member could be taken lightly -- dead or not.

"There's no point to it, Kisame." Kakashi reiterated over the crash of a tree cracking open the ground below them in a deafening crash, sending up a flock of birds flying away as a puff of dust and dirt momentarily clouded the air.

From the way the other's chakra seemed to stab at him, Kakashi wasn't sure if Kisame would back down.

"That may be what you think," Kisame replied. "But I think there's plenty of reason for me to fight you."

There probably weren't very many reasons, but Kisame liked to think that even just a tiny excuse was enough to chop a man into tiny pieces. So for his next move, instead of chopping down the tree again, he summoned a couple of water clones to send after Kakashi.

Well, this was definitely the last thing Kakashi wanted to deal with.

The jounin's hand flicked up to his hitai-ate and he quickly lifted it, exposing his Sharingan in swirl of black on red. He immediately assessed his situation, and created a shadow clone, which leaped out of the tree, down towards the real Kisame with his kunai drawn.

[ooc: You need a large body of water in order to summon water clones. So, if Kisame wants to use water clones, he must perform Suiton Takitsubo no Jutsu in order to create said body of water... XD; Can we simply assume he did that?]

[ooc: ouuuuffff i had no idea. i fail so hard at jutsu i guess :c and OK let's just assume so, just to make it easier... sorrrrryyyy!]

Kisame saw the clone heading towards him, and swung Samehada to create some distance between them. He reached out far enough to make sure it was at least was a threat to it. His own clones had split up while one started getting closer to the original Kakashi and the other towards the Kakashi clone.

Once he guaged the distance, he slapped his hands together to form a simple seal. His chest heaved and water flooded out from his mouth in gallons. He knew it was going all-out, but this was Kakashi. He knew it wasn't going to be a cake-walk.

The clone flipped out of the way before Samehada could dissipate it. It ran nimbly a good distance across water, chakra-charged feet sounding out tat tat tat across the surface, fingers flying in seal formation -- ox, rabbit, ram, dog, monkey.

Water was weak to lightning -- looked like Kakashi had an advantage. The clone slammed its hands down on the water's surface.

"Raiton Ikazuchi no Hakai!"

Lightning flowed through his fingers and coursed into water, hot and fast, turning the entire surface of the water that spread out before him into a gigantic conduit for electricity, snapping its way straight at the Kisame.

Meanwhile, the real Kakashi created another clone while disappearing behind the trunk of a tree, this time to confuse the water clones that followed him -- turning it into a decoy that could easily be mistaken for the real that engaged the other clones directly, as he carefully hid himself and watched his first clone battle with the real Kisame.

[ooc: it's fine! and um... AIM? maybe? :D]

Kisame was feeling pretty stupid, and pretty stunned. He forgot about Kakashi's nature type, due to his overeagerness to fight, and had gotten himself severely electrocuted. He couldn't exactly move very well at first, but the moment he found even just a fraction of a second to recover, he somehow managed to climb a really tall tree. He had to get a proper grip on his situation. Water just didn't work very well against Kakashi but he couldn't just get rid of the water he summoned.

"Grrr, I'll just have to work long distance," he muttered to himself.

He performed a few seals and called out 'Suiton: Suikōdan no Jutsu.' A bunch of water sharks attacked the clones, since he wasn't completely sure which one was the real Kakashi.

But no sooner did the water burst up from the surface to smash down on his clone, the same exact mirror image of the attack burst up and crashed right into it --

-- an eerie repeat of the fight they had before.

Kakashi's other clone up in the tree worked to dispose of the different Kisames coming right at him, fighting them straight-on, shooting up the trunk of a tree before jumping off of it, fingers flying through seals.

"Katon Goukakyuu no Jutsu!"

A gigantic fireball blew straight at the clones.

One clone fizzed out from the fireball, and one managed to dive into the water below where it immediately came back out to attack the closest clone with a Water Prison Technique.

Kisame decided that he couldn't win with just his water jutsu. He had Samehada in both hands and tried to pin-point Kakashi's position. He couldn't have been too far, so he just started shredding all the trees around him to keep them from obscuring his view.

The moment Kakashi's clone found itself trapped in the water prison, it immediately dispersed as the Kakashi who'd katon'd the other clone out of existence moved in quickly towards Kisame.

A cloud of shuriken flew towards the Akatsuki member, as the clone -- or was it Kakashi? -- drew in closer with a kunai to engage directly in battle.

The Kisame clone chased after the last Kakashi clone, in hopes of destroying it before it reached Kisame himself, but it was already a bit late.

The real Kisame swung Samehada to the side, effortlessly, as Kakashi (or the clone?) drew near. He wasn't sure if it was the real one at first, but one way or the other, he had to get rid of all the clones first before being satisfied.

But Kakashi dodged the massive blade, kunai swirling as he drew in, trying to drive it in at an angle right at Kisame's throat.

Not allowing an opponent to catch you with your back turned was one of the most important commandments for any ninja.

With Kisame successfully engaged by his clone, Kakashi had taken the advantage, even with Kisame's water clone just a few steps away.

He'd be faster, anyway.

"RAIKIRI!"

He burst out from the tree he'd been hiding in, wood splintering under him as he turned into a blur of sparking white and blue hot chakra, the screeching of one thousand birds a deafening roar as he closed in on his opponent with every intention of slamming his chakra-imbued fist right through him, straight through his back.

The distinct screech was something he had feared he would've had to face that day. Actually, "fear" wasn't the right word for it. More like something he just didn't feel like dealing with that day...

It wasn't that he unprepared for it, it was just the most inopportune moment for him to be caught by it. The blade closing in on his neck had a small fraction of his attention, but that was more than enough. The moment he managed to drive Samehada through the clone, he could feel the blinding white light pierce through his black cloak.

Raikiri was a technique Kakashi had perfected to cut through any object -- human, being the easiest.

But for whatever reason, this Raikiri didn't cut, didn't carve through, to allow Kakashi to take Kisame's heart with it.

Instead, he watched in confusion as the attack incinerated through fabric and slammed right against Kisame's back, the chakra infused blow sending his opponent flying away from him, as opposed to wrapped around his arm.

What...?

Raikiri was definitely not supposed to do that.
