There was a loud thump coming from the ceiling of the courthouse.
Raiden touched down heavily onto the roof from a neighboring building. She was here, and looking for Campbell no less. Ever since he heard that fateful DreamBerry transmission, Raiden was despondent. He spent hours wandering around the city after spending a day on a hunting and tracking escapade with Snake. His preoccupation cost him dearly; Vamp attacked him on his way past the Café des Reves, leaving him with a threat on the very woman that consumed his thoughts.
And as much as Raiden resented her, he couldn't let her die on his behalf.
Raiden, struggling with a feeling somewhere between hate, resentment, loss, pain, and his duty as a soldier, returned to the courthouse in resignation with the intention of requesting from Snake one simple favor, one he couldn't see through to its end.
He climbed down the side of the courthouse and swung through the defense lobby window with a second thunk.
Stepping away from the front room (she believed that she was safe anywhere within the courthouse), the woman moved slowly towards the defense lobby doors, a frown crossing her delicate features. Something could have crashed to the ground dangerously or there was the possibility that someone could have been injured in such a heavy fall.
Or perhaps... She pushed the doors open.
Rose didn't bother hiding her surprised expression as her gaze rested on Raiden.
"Oh, forgive me. I didn't realize there was someone in here..."

Raiden's head snapped up. His eyes locked on to Rose's soft, small form. Breath left him a small puff of steam.
A wave of anger replaced the sadness on his face. The room grew frigid despite the damp spring coolness outside. He rose to his full height from his crouch near the window, his heels clacking against the ground, his long-nailed fingers curled tightly into fists. Raiden's translucent lower lip puckered and trembled. The stark red of his mouth against his pale skin peeked through the clear, rubbery material.
"No. You were closer to the truth the first time," Raiden insisted coldly with a touch of melodrama. His voice was low and hoarse, resentment simmering just under the surface. He approached the door at a slow, even march. "There isn't anyone here. No one but a soldier is here."
Rose's gaze didn't leave Raiden's face as he advanced on her, studying the too few details on the cyborg that were still natural. She remained silent as she took in everything. His frigid stare, the cool blue eyes, the tormented-sounding voice... It was near impossible for the woman to not recognize her ex-fiancee from up this close.
But it was the intense yet familiar fear that suddenly rose up in her, the quivering lips and shaking knees, that made her realization lock into place.
"Jack..." she barely managed to get out, her voice as unstable as she felt, soft and scared.

There he would wait for Snake.
