Meanwhile, Vanessa is having second thoughts.

Not even second, really. More like third, fourth fifth, fifteenth. It's a silly thing to have asked, she's silly for thinking it up, and she'll feel even sillier when she's made to stand before him and swing a crappy fake sword around like some flailing lunatic. She's never been as graceful as her brothers, nor as talented in...well, anything. The weakest, most useless member of the Nightray family, she was only fit to care for her mother.

But now...there's a new world of dangers and a life that she's slowly trying to leave behind.

She'd given Hans the night off. Or rather she'd told him to work on learning the ins and outs of the new technology around the house. Having him back would be both a blessing and a curse at this rate.

But after getting her coat, she moves back to his side and gestures for him to lead the way.

"I'm ready."

Fifteenth thoughts be damned.

"This way please."

He gestured politely, moving toward the door to hold it open for her.(Habits, yes.) Once she'd stepped past the threshold it was time to embark on the journey toward the recreational room he'd found suitable for their practice. It wouldn't be too long of a walk (thankfully) but it was still a decent distance away.

"Have you ever held a sword before, Lady Nightray?"

It was a valid, curious, if not innocent question. Usually Edward would embrace the silence but, it needed to be asked.

Her hands slip into the pockets of her jacket as they walk, closing herself off from him as much as she possibly can. Though...while she doesn't want to risk saying anything else embarrassing to him, he's asked a question that needs to be answered honestly if she plans on really learning anything.

"...I have. My brother's," she mumbles, though she doesn't specify which one.

"But only as a joke when I was young."

"I see."

A pity, really. To be able to wield a sword was something, Edward thought, a lady should be allowed to learn. After all, even his own younger sister was turning out to be a fine swordsmaster - probably even more skilled than he was, in certain aspects. She'd even been called a genius of the blade. He'd never been more proud of her. Then there was mother, who was brilliantly skilled as well.

"Was it something you wanted to learn, then?"
