It wasn't like she was trying to be rude by not being overly ecstatic that Clary was there. The first thing that had come to her mind was Jace and what his reaction would be - good at first ( Read more... )

Jace had tried explaining things to Clary. Tried being calm while he did it too. Honestly he wasn't sure if it had worked or not. It was a lot to take in and he knew that. But she had a right to know and honestly...he needed her to know. He didn't want to lose her again.

So he held her close as he guided her to the mansion, giving her some of his warmth.

"This is where we're all staying. There's room enough for you."

When Clary arrived, she looked nothing short of disheveled, hair tangled, soaking clothes sticking to her as she huddled in Jace's coat looking rather pale-- from the cold, perhaps, but also just as likely from the mental strain of trying to wrap her head around everything at once.

Clary looked up when they arrived, glancing around. It looked nothing like the Institute, though why she'd expected it to, she had no idea. She simply nodded. "There'd better be," Clary muttered, still tucked under Jace's arm without even caring anymore. Maybe they weren't siblings. Maybe they were. But dammit, she was cold and confused and apparently in some weird dream-world and there was nothing wrong with hugging anyway. Her head still ached from trying to make sense of it all.

Isabelle had seen them through the window before they were close enough to actually warrant opening the door, but she did it anyway, looking more than a little bit concerned. They were huddled close - not really surprising, but probably a good thing. Was it? By the Angel, she really just needed to ignore the entire thing and let things take their course. But she couldn't; she did like Clary, and leaving her out in the cold wasn't really an option.

"Clary," she greeted, trying to force a smile to her face before she just gave in and pitched her arms around the smaller girl, pulling her into a hug. "Come on. You can borrow some of my clothes so you don't catch hypothermia and die or something. That'd be just what we need."

Though he was obviously reluctant, Jace released Clary so that Izzy could take her. If nothing else she was going to have better clothes for her. True they were both bigger than his tiny girlfriend but at least Isabelle had clothes suited to a girl. All the same, he looked at his sister and couldn't hide the bit of fear in those gold eyes of his. So, he quickly looked away to keep her from seeing it for long.

"I'll wait in the hallway."

LATER ON.... because Tora said so :|a if that's okay -- dungeongeek October 14 2011, 00:34:59 UTC
Jace's reaction to all of this probably entirely trumped Simon's, but nonetheless, going so long without your lifelong best friend with strenuous. Sure, he had his girlfriend and he and Isabelle had grown exceptionally close, but Clary was Clary. And without Clary, he most certainly was not home.

Which is why when he saw over the Dreamberry, and actually made contact with her, it was inevitable he stumbled out of his room. Naturally, he didn't know where in the mansion she was at the moment, but did it matter? Of course not. So he simply awkwardly stood in the middle of the hall, fumbling with buttons. Where to go first -

I say it's okay. :| markofthemind October 14 2011, 00:46:02 UTC
She'd been making her way back over to Isabelle's room, now that she was slightly more settled in and calmer--and no longer freezing, which was a plus--to see if Isabelle had some safety pins or something she could borrow. The other girl's jeans refused to stay rolled up, and this was a problem namely because they were at least several inches too long for Clary's embarrassingly (in her opinion) shorter legs.

Perhaps she'd gotten lost though-- Clary paused, glancing down one hall and then another and making a turn on a whim to see if anything looked familiar. She refused to call Isabelle on what she'd learned was called a Dreamberry. This place wasn't that big; she should be able to find her way around ( ... )

Which would have been a million points to Team Simon had he known that small fact. The fact that he trumped Jace for once. Regardless, his eyes widened in surprise. Whether it was pure luck, or some funky vampire intuition, he had been outside at the precise time to catch Clary. Which was beautiful. More than that, it was fucking fangtastic. Ignoring that horrible pun...

And yes, he had rushed forth too, just enough to initiate a hug. Of course, he couldn't really predict his own speed, plus hers, which was really -

"Clary!" He stumbled back, just a bit. Thankfully, his reflexes were still good enough to catch his balance before he fell backwards. His arms reached out on impulse, at first, straight in the air, but then once the shock had worn off, they curled comfortably around Clary's thin torso. He had missed this. This friendship, this comfort, this warmth, this security and familiarity ( ... )

Letting out a soft oof of surprise at the unexpected impact, Clary nevertheless laughed, catching Simon's wrist on instinct to steady herself. "Something like that, yeah."

She hugged him back warmly, taking instant comfort in the familiarity. There was none of that unsureness in this embrace that there had been with Jace, confusion and want and wondering if it was okay after all-- no, even despite the recent (for her) attempt and failure at being Simon's girlfriend, things were still comfortable. And, right now, familiarity amongst all the strangeness was reassuring.

"You seem happy to see me," she teased gently.
