Usually, Zuko had a schedule, and training went somewhere in the morning or sometimes after lunch. Today was one of the latter days, and so Zuko headed back up to his apartment in the afternoon, shirt in one hand00since he hadn't felt like putting it back on and he didn't really care if people saw him shirtless--and swords held casually in the other.
He expected a cold drink and a nice shower when he got back to his apartment. (Now that he knew how to use the damn thing, he definitely wouldn't deny the usefulness of running water.)
He did not, however, expect to open the door of his apartment and find someone sprawled on his couch, even though the door had been locked and he had the only key. He stared, and somewhere in the middle of that staring had begun to draw his swords, sweaty shirt dropping near his feet.
It only took a second to realize it was Jace, and then Zuko shoved the twin swords back into their sheath and glared at him, slamming the door shut. "How did you get in here?" he demanded by way of greeting. Not that he
( ... )
Honestly he was beginning to wonder how long he was going to have to wait when he heard the key in the lock. Lazily, Jace turned his head to look over at the door. Sure enough, in came Zuko. Interesting that he wasn't wearing a shirt but the sweat and the swords explained the answer to that one easily enough.
With a cocky little grin, he pointed his thumb at the window. "I jumped."
Yes, it was as simple as that. And now that that was out of the way, he put his hands behind his head. He looked perfectly at home here. Almost as if he had been invited. Or as if he'd decided to claim this territory as his own for awhile.
"You know, I was wondering if you were going to keep me waiting all day. I almost considered a nap."
"We're on the fourth floor," he pointed out flatly, striding over to lean his swords against the wall near his bedroom door and throw the shirt he'd picked back up into the room as well. He could put it away later.
He sounded annoyed more than disbelieving. After all, he knew he could get up to the window too with little trouble. But it was still irritating that Jace had broken into his place for what seemed to be the express reason of taking over his couch.
"Then I am pleased your memory is still very much in tact."
Getting up like a graceful cat, Jace went to the window he'd been pointing to and leaned against the frame of it, glancing down. Yes. He could jump that too without problems.
"You're right. It is four floors." He jumped up onto the ledge and grinned over his shoulder.
"It's not that far."
And he jumped out, easily landing on the street below. Oh, he fully intended to come back. But for now...
