Picking his way across the city proved more difficult than it used to be, with debris from storm and quake still littered across many streets. Desolate buildings lined the walkways, some having fared worse than others, and while no sign of

He stood up at seeing the familiar form and headed right over. "Allelujah," he said, relieved to see that he looked as though he'd made it through alright.

"My name is Neil," he said, smiling kindly. "What's yours?"

He didn't think he knew a Neil, but that just meant they'd never been put together before. "Allelujah." After a moment, he added, "It's nice to meet you."

Allelujah held his own arms out to the side speculatively, watching the material drape off and over them. "Mine don't either." A quick wriggle had the coat off - the shirt underneath was long on him, only a narrow neck stopping it from trying to slide over his shoulders, but at least that meant it went down to mid-thigh, so he shucked the pants entirely as he hopped off the seat. Something fell off his lap as he did so, and he snatched at it, grabbing it before it could hit the ground.
The boots were way too big, especially if he needed to run at all, and he bundled them along with the pants and coat under the chair. With a faint air of satisfaction, Allelujah straightened. It was cold, but he could move properly again.

He rubbed the back of his neck and stepped out of his own shoes, yanking the annoying oversized socks up. "D'you wanna try to slip out of here?"

He fidgeted slightly, fingers interlocking nervously - they hadn't been told to go. But then they hadn't been told to stay, and he still couldn't see any whitecoats, so maybe this was like downtime. (A really strange downtime.) Allelujah stretched himself up on the tips of his toes, looking around the wide room, and pointed. "There's a door over there."

He stepped outside and stared at their rather hideous surroundings. The city looked like one of those terrorist-bombed places on TV. "Uh..."

Until he saw outside.
"T-This isn't..." It was all broken; nothing like neat lines and little patches of green, and definitely nothing like rooms and corridors.
Allelujah suddenly squeezed his eyes shut, sucked his lower lip in, and reached. He got...nothing. Lots and lots of nothing. Not even a tiny flutter. He'd thought she was just quiet or busy or sleeping or something, but now he realised he couldn't even feel her anymore. That never happened, not when they were awake. Not when they were inside.
"This isn't the colony." He barely noticed when he bumped against Neil, more intent on backing away from all the things that weren't even a little familiar.

This bit of information instilled a touch of doubt in him. Why would someone go to all the trouble to pick out one child from a colony and one from Earth? For whatever purpose? This really must be a dream. But for a dream-character, Allelujah didn't have anything cool like lasers or a sniper rifle mounted to his arms, like Neil's dream-friends usually did.

"Of course I..." Allelujah paused, and blinked at Neil. "This is Earth?" Despite himself, he glanced back at the scene, curiosity tempered by scepticism. Earth wasn't supposed to look like this, surely.
