Like an old routine, that jab makes Zack pout up at Angeal and he almost snorts to live up to his nickname.

"Maybe if you get lucky. Cause I listened sometimes, you know."

Now Zack grins, sitting up straight and ticking things off his fingers as he leans further and further back.

"How to make a proper field kit for up to three weeks out of a base-camp, how to stop a wound from bleeding all over the place without materia, how to sleep alone out in the field without exposing yourself to an enemy, how to---"

And with that final word, Zack has leaned just a little too far back and he tumbles from the picnic bench with a yelp and a distinct thud. One thing that didn't really stick from Angeal's talks? How to not fall off his butt when sitting down.

Zack had learned a lot from Angeal, actually. He could be asked to list it, but he'd need more time than he'd had before falling off his seat and onto the ground. Another thing the former SOLDIER had passed onto his student? Never stay vulnerable for long if you could avoid it.

"Nah, I'm okay." And he was; it would take more than that to hurt Zack's thick skull, so the only damage was to his ego as he sat back down, running a hand through his hair to get the leaves out. The sheepish look was one Angeal was probably used to, at any rate.

"So...yeah. I did learn a lot of stuff from you."

Zack looks up when he hears the smirk in Angeal's tone, but there's no pout or the hint of anything that resembles that this time. This time it's just a grin. His plan to make Angeal smile or laugh seems to be working!

"Yeah, I did. Long time before we met." He'd been around...oh, ten years old or so, the first time. And, as with everything else Zack Fair did, it stuck and stuck hard.

"There was a reason I was crappy when you tried to teach me balance, just so you know. Didn't have any even when I was a kid."

The look only gets Zack to grin wider, even as he nods. Angeal's got a point, and that's no surprise.

"And one of these days I will. Maybe if you check in at the house sometime." Was it his way of trying to get Angeal to let them know he hadn't poofed? Yeah, it was. No one could say Zack Fair was a subtle kind of guy.

It was a good thing that Zack never wanted to be subtle, then. Because he just couldn't be no matter how hard he tried.

"Never said we'd talk there, man. The city's pretty big, so we can just go for a walk and talk or something."

And, truthfully...he hadn't had many negative impressions of people during his stay so far. Genesis...well, that one was just a mess no matter where he was.

[ Amidst the hubbub, Genesis had discreetly managed to slip in, passing through the small crowd relatively unnoticed by the few whom he happened to be acquainted with. While he wasn't particularly in the mood for company tonight, the murmur of conversation and the pleasant crackle of the bonfire helped ease his gently fraying nerves.

Taking a seat close to the shadowed edge, he merely watched the scene unfold - and for the first time in a good while, he happened to be well and truly rooted to the present rather than drifting back to the past. ]

[Done playing chef for the interim, Sephiroth spied his friend and brother some feet away from the rest of the throng. Chuckling quietly to himself, he wove through the random revelers, moving silently to take a seat relatively nearby. Close enough for conversation, but not stiflingly so.]

Wool-gathering, Genesis?

[ It had practically become a sixth sense by now. He could feel Sephiroth's gaze the moment the General had glanced his way, could feel the distance between them gradually come to a close. Keeping his gaze fixed on the bonfire, Genesis relaxes a touch. Upon glance he seems much more comfortable now and more like his usual self. ]

Or something.

I'm glad you're here, nevertheless.

[Sephiroth leans back in his rough camp chair, crossing his knees comfortably. Soldier trots up and, with a grunt, flops down at his master's feet, stretching out for a snooze.]

There's much to be done, yet.
