In the aftermath of the receeding flood waters, Desmond had gone back to his apartment to find it completely wasted. He had only been able to save a few clothes and blankets that would be useable after a good wash. Some he had shared with the refugees on the roof, other he had kept for himself ( ... )

She stepped in when he shifted, eager to get out of the hallway where anyone could see and judge her; it wasn't every day she cried in public, after all. Never, if Izzy could actually help it. But all the same, she shook her head slowly, inhaling a shivering breath before trying to meet his eyes with her own. "Nothing," she tried at first, "I almost wish he had. It's easier to be mad at him."

For a long moment, Isabelle wondered if she was intruding upon him, if she was somehow unwelcome even though he had invited her in wordlessly. Her brows pulled into a frown as she glanced around the empty penthouse, mouth pursed as she debated just leaving and telling him to forget she showed up at all. "Did I interrupt you or something?"

Her reply made him frown slightly: what could really be more complicated than being mad her brother? But as he watched her looking around the apartment, obviously debating if she should stay or not, Desmond closed the door and leaned against it, cutting her retreat route. The tear stains on her cheeks and her unusual demeanor was enough for the novice to push her for an answer.

He shook his head: "No I just woke up from a nap. Do you want something? Coffee, water...whiskey?" He wasn't really the kind to offer alcohol to a minor, but given her agitated state, it might help calm her down.

Pushing himself off the door, he led her to the kitchen.

"Yeah, okay. Couldn't hurt, I guess," she replied quietly, forcing a smile when he closed the door behind her; in that moment, Isabelle was more grateful for Desmond's company than she could have possibly said aloud - she just hoped that he knew how much it meant to her.

"So...what, you're just living here all by yourself? Or was I lucky enough to catch you alone?" A small, forced laugh. It would be just her luck if more people got to witness her melt down; before she knew it, all of Somarium would probably know that she was so affected by petty little things.
