[Despite the sleepiness clinging to his eyelids, the aching heaviness of his body with tiredness and the weight of his rain-soaked clothes, he had not been able to find rest. He had lain in one of the camps’ rudimentary tents, blinking at the translucent wall for what felt like hours. Just watching dark streaks of rain snaking down and listening to the thick, deep breathing of those curled up not an arm’s length away. His eyes had burned when he had closed them for a moment, and it felt as if it had been a lifetime ago when the roar of rain had ever soothed him ( ... )

[Just Javert's luck. First, he starts his day with a truck crash and two mysteriously evaporated patrolmen. Now, he is drifting at 'sea' with some sort of black and very toothed creature speeding toward him, and a shout calls from above from his would-be savior.

A would-be savior that Javert recognizes, upon jerking his head up and away from the creature, by his clothing and weapon as one of his personal enemies. Ishikawa Goemon, a man he has condemned and warned several times before. If it weren't for his unusual clothes and that ridiculous sabre of his, Javert might not have been able to tell who it was in this torrential weather.

That jerking motion in the water would almost cost him. He grits his teeth and positively snarls at the criminal,]

I would rather you let me be!--

[No sooner do the words leave his mouth that the beast in the water bursts through the surface and clamps its massive maws down on what is left of Javert's driftwood.]

[There was a flash of vague annoyance in his dark eyes at the words… but with the scabbard still in his mouth, he was unable to express to the Inspector that he felt ‘he was being ridiculous’. With an adamantine will, he refused to be sent away, deciding he would not leave it up to Javert to choose his fate; at least, not in this instant. His head jerked sharply to one side, his heart pumping white-hot adrenaline through his bloodstream as a raging beast - the physical manifestation of feelings of darkness and unrest - burst through the surface of the water and bit savagely on one end of the driftwood log with steely, trap-like jaws capable of splintering bone from looks of them ( ... )

[It's the gleam that catches Lara's attention first and she frowns, tilting the Skyrunner to bring it closer to the dark waters. It's only then that she manages to catch the humanoid shadow slowly drifting away on the floating log. Looking over her shoulder, she raises her voice over the sounds of torrential waters and hard falling rain]

I think I've found one, Nate!

[She points to the black shape before pulling the flying back to hover over the man. She steadies the device, her eyes scanning the waters as she pulls out one of her gun. Giving the end of a rope tied to the Skyrunner, Lara gives a nod towards the man down below Nate and her, a small smirk on her lips despite the situation.]

We better hurry, I don't think we're alone. And I'd hate to see you end up bait for the sushi monsters down there.

[Drake really wanted to give flying this thing a try, but had given up controls to Lara knowing full well that someone would have to go down there and do the rescuing. And mostly because they just didn't have the time for a crash course in flying this weird thing. Besides, this was her area of expertise and he wasn't going to butt in.

That didn't mean he was any happier to be the one going down there. He sighed and reluctantly took the rope. Saving someone wasn't the issue, but there had been those weird creatures everywhere with some rather unpleasant side effects when they were killed.

Drake checked his gun and fastened it into his holster.]

You say 'we' but it's me that's going down there and presenting myself as a tasty meal to those ugly bastards.

[Despite his thorough preoccupation with the approaching glimmer in the water, Javert perceives rather than sees a shadow descending upon him from high over head. But rather than look up at the contraption flying above, and the people undoubtedly looking upon him, he thrusts up a single hand as if motioning to whomever is up there to HALT in their tracks. His eyes are glued to that glimmering spot in the water, and his arm clings to the driftwood for dear life. The hand gesture lasts but a moment, and almost a moment too long, for a great black toothed beasts bursts from the water in front of him, teeth gnashing, and lunges for his arm.

Luckily Javert is quick for his long, tall, and lanky size, and from beneath the water he draws out a fearsome police club and savagely begins to beat it, his strokes long, hard, and well-practiced.

A little help with those guns up there, guys, might be much appreciated.]

[She chuckles lightly at Drake's compains]

Oh don't worry. I'm sure you're far much too chewy and bitter for them to want to take a bite. Me, on the other end, I'd be tender and tasty and be a complete delicatissen to them. Plus, don't you like playing hero?

[But the teasing banter will have to wait as Lara sees the toothy beast coming at Javert. Steadying her hand, she shoots at the monster]

I think now is a good time to jump, Nate!
