Effects: No matter what the subject of the dream is and whether it is a normal or interactive dream, there is a strange shadow that seems to lurk around. Maybe it's somewhere in the background that's harmless barely noticeable. Maybe it's large and looming and strikes a strange fear that won't go away even after waking. But it's a dark, shapeless shadow that will appear somewhere and sometime within the dream. See the notes for more details about how the shadow could work. Note: This is completely optional. Characters can have dreams without the shadows.
Notes: Well you've heard about them, but now it's time for everyone to have a chance to experiment and try out the whole "interactive dreaming" and "dreamwalking" thing we've been talking about. Also included is a heads up of what the New Moon event will be like.
- Reserves reopen on the 9/15! Just a quick reminder that reserves will reopen on September 15, midnight CST.
- Message from Aisling. Everyone will receive the following message:
FROM: Aisling
SUBJECT: Try it yourself! ♥
Hey guys, it's Aisling!!! How are you doing? Having fun? Well I'm about to make it better!!!!! I finally got the clearance and EVERYONE can try dreamwalking for themselves! Isn't that totally awesome!?!?!? If you missed out on last week's training, no sweat! You all now have a little guide on your Dreamberries that covers the basics.
But don't worry. Seriously, dreamwalking is soooo easy you can do it in your sleep.
LOL GET IT!? Because you're already sleeping!!!!!
Anyway, have fun! :)

- Free Interactive Dreaming. This week you guys get a chance to try making interactive posts! For those who may need a refresher, refer to the Dreamwalking page. The usual restrictions will apply, so nothing game breaking. This goes for both making the dream and interacting in the dream. Now for a few little details on how this will work.
- OPTIONAL. Just letting you guys know that you do not have to participate in either writing an interactive dream or the dreamwalking part of it. Characters can still have the traditional non-interactive dreams, and it is possible for someone to just passively watch an interactive dream.
- IC Guide. Also as mentioned in her message, there is an IC Guide on how to dreamwalk. Characters can access this on their Dreamberries. They should all receive a notification that it has been uploaded to their devices and can be viewed whenever they want.
- Post to journals only. All interactive dreams should be posted to the journals. To ensure that there isn't any confusion between non-interactive and interactive dreams, clearly mark them! So if you have an interactive dream post, make sure it's labeled somewhere either in the subject line or at the top of the post.
- Headers still apply. The traditional Warnings and Dream Effect headers still apply to the interactive dreams. There's an additional header field, Additional Notes that you can also include.
- Interactive dream content. This can be anything you want, really. Just a little reminder that the "location" of the setting is limited to a confined space. Think of it like a stage of a play. You only get one stage for the scene, not an entire world. But like a play, those stages can change. At this point in time, most characters probably won't be able to do that, but we're just mentioning it for those who are curious about the future.
- Interacting with the dream content. More than likely characters will be interacting with the dreamer, but it is also possible to interact with the setting. You could sort of think of this like a mini log. Just remember to not godmod anything and if you ever have any doubts, contact the player. Players are also free to leave notes about what can or can't be done to help.
- Mix it up? It's possible that a dream doesn't become interactive until after certain events of the dream occur. This is probably the closest to an "accidental interactive dream post" that you can get. This type of interactive dream can either be done on purpose or on accident. So here's an example: a character is dreaming about being chased by something. The first part of the dream is non-interactive. Other characters can only watch the dream like usual. However, players can then switch the mode to make it interactive. So continuing with the example, let's say the character just dove into a cave to hide from whatever was chasing him or her. At that point, the dream becomes open to interaction and other characters could enter the dream. They would find themselves in that cave setting and the action continues from there. At first the dreamer may be confused but they will become aware of what is going on eventually. So the short version is:
- Dream starts off as passive and characters can only watch the dream.
- Dream switches to interactive mode mid-dream.
- Other characters can then enter the dream and interact from there.
- Dreamer will be confused but will eventually realize what's going on.
- Entering dreams. There are two ways to do it: either on purpose or on accident. Those who purposefully try to enter the dream only have to close their eyes, hold their Dreamberry, concentrate, and bam they're in. It is also possible for a character to accidentally dreamwalk into an interactive dream. This is completely random, so feel free to use that in case you want to post to a dream but have no clue how. Just keep in mind that when a character is dreamwalking, their physical body will be asleep. So let's hope your characters wasn't sitting on a ladder or cooking when they accidentally dreamwalked.
- Leaving dreams. Depending on the type of dream, characters can either voluntarily leave or, if the dreamer seems "stuck," characters can help try to wake them out of it and thereby be forced out that way.
- Dreams involving other character/people. If the dream content includes other characters and people, dreamwalking characters can interact with them. However, they will seem more like ghost-like figures in comparison.
- Passive watching. As stated before, the status quo of characters can just passively watch the dream and then comment later to talk with the dreamer after they've woken up is still available. However, keep in mind: characters will only see the initial setup. They will not see any of the dreamwalking interactions that may occur. So basically the only content they will see is whatever is written in the original post, not the subsequent threads.
- Will my characters know how to do this? Yes! Even if they didn't go to the training, there is information and even a manual on the basics of how to dreamwalk in Somarium. Characters will be notified that there is a new document available to read, so they can view it on their own whenever they'd like.
And that should be it. If you think of interactive dreams as similar to mini logs where characters have more control over their setting, then it's really quite simple. But if you have questions, feel free to comment and ask them here!
- Shadows in dreams. We mentioned earlier about these strange shadows that may appear in a character's dreams. You can use them in any way you want and can choose whether the character notices them in the dream. Or you could use it as some sort of symbolic reference to whatever the dream content is. For interactive dreams, if other characters notice the shadow, nothing will happen if they approach and even try to touch or figure out where it's coming from. It's just a strange shadow that has invaded the dream. It does not grow or move. There is also the optional effect of it being the source of some strange fear, and this can be used in either type of dream.
- Player Plots. Just a mention about some current player plots that are occurring!
- Murder: Part 2. Franziska was only Daniella's first victim. Looks like she's just claimed a second! OOC info can be read here with the actual log of the events here.
If there are others or there have been recent developments, please let us know so we can quickly edit and add!
- Chatroom. Okay, after last week's poll as well as the comments, we've decided to officially get rid of the IRC chat. However, we decided not to close a chatroom all together, so there is an AIM chatroom available. It's called somarium. Feel free to use it to get together to either talk to one other or plot.
- For next week. We are going ahead and giving everyone a heads up on what will happen next week. Sylvani will do as promised and tell everyone what happened and who is pulling the strings behind the reason why they are even here to begin with. However, this is going to be unique in that instead of telling everyone, she is going to show everyone via dreamwalking.
That's right. She will dream and create a dreamscape that will essentially bring those who are interested "back in time" to the events that led to everything. Of course there will be some twists in the mix, but we'll detail that in the next Moon Cycle post.
This will of course be optional, and those who do not participate will actually be able to stand by and watch the whole thing should they choose to. Of course those who stay behind will have something to do, too. The next event will also be a lot more action oriented, but that's what all the dreamwalking training is for! We will be asking for sign-ups later in the week so we can get an idea of who will be interested and allow for you guys to plot amongst yourselves. But feel free to go ahead and think about it. If you have any player plots you were thinking about, this will also be a good chance to work on the planning.
And that should be it! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to ask here.
