Moon Cycle 62: 4/13 - 4/19

Apr 13, 2011 00:32

❖ MOON CYCLE 62 ❂ 04/13/11 - 04/19/11
Phase: Three-fourth waxing. Is it just me or is that moon starting to shimmer and glow brighter with each passing night? It also seems to be growing a little faster than usual.

Weather: Pleasant weather continues all through the week, except for a few random, scattered showers. The rain will hit at any time and any where, so just keep a look out for any fast approaching rain clouds! Some thunder and lightning, but mostly just rain showers that don't last too long. Any rainbows that form will also be lacking in color due to the current world effects.

Notes: A number of noticeable changes, so pay heed! Also some more head's up notices about the upcoming 1920s AU Event.
  • All clothes have transformed to 1920s fashion. That means even the clothes on your characters' backs have spiffed up and taken shape. Men will wear fedoras and short suits. Fashionable women will wear flapper clothes, fringe, tight-breasted dresses, and the like. Hairstyles will change as well. Men may awaken to find their hair slicked back; women with their hair in short-clipped, shimmering waves. [Note: the hairstyle change is optional for this week, but it will be mandatory during the AU week, so keep that in mind!] No fashions beyond the Jazz Age will be available for the duration of the next AU event.

  • All vehicles, appliances, and buildings have transformed. Art nouveau glam and glitz everywhere, Model-T ford cards, old-fashioned and clunky gas range stoves abound. Be mindful of technology, music, and fashions of the day! Here is a nifty reference link to keep handy.

  • Speakeasies and morally questionable clubs have begun to pop up. All clubs have converted to smoky lounges filled with Jazz music of the roaring twenties. Characters might also notice an influx of rather shady characters in these establishments; men with Tommy guns, men with large cigars, men with huge wads of cash exchanged under the table... all very suspicious endeavors.

  • Campaign against Sin and Liquor. That's right, you'll be seeing a lot more organized protests around lately, especially near the Jazz Clubs. Women will be holding big picket signs, and some clubs may get raided and destroyed by people convinced that alcohol is the devil. Times are somewhat turbulent these days, and for all intents and purposes, it appears that the NPC population has gone positively berserk. If your character is the sort to party it up and have a little fun, watch out for these wily ladies.

  • Vintage Card Updated. This card is related to the upcoming AU event, so pay careful attention!

    • Recap. For the new players: the vintage card was introduced during this Moon Cycle. It's basically well-worn, vintage looking playing card that has the character's portrait on it (something like this). To make things simple, this card will appear by the characters Dreamberry or on the character's person Wednesday morning.

    • Image change. At some point during this week, the image on the card will stick to one image. This image will reflect the character's AU life. So for instance, if your character is going to be a gangster, the image on the card will be of the character in standard gangster attire and holding a gun or performing some kind of action that would make it obvious that they're part of the mafia. If your character is going to be a rich, upper-class citizen, they will be outfitted in luxury.

If you have yet to decide what your character will be, you can hold off on the image. If you're undecided, then the character will remain in generic 1920s attire. This image will change once you've decided what you'd like your character to be. Characters who will not be affected will also be in generic 1920s attire.

    • Bonus movie! It's not just a still image! Characters may notice that the lower corner of the card may seem chipped or worn off. Should they brush their finger against it, a video will be activated. It will show the character performing whatever job they have for approximately 5-10 seconds. So if they're a mafia member, robbing people or shooting guns. Maybe working at an office. It could be even something completely random or mundane like driving a car or riding a bicycle. It will also be very similar to a silent movie, only without any text. Old film lines are also visible.
These are all hints as to what is coming, so at this point, characters will definitely have suspicions that "Something is not right here in Somarium" and theories will abound. Anything goes at this point, so have fun!

  • AU Plotting Post Head's up! First of all, this is not the event week. Characters are in their gear, but this is not the AU event. The actual AU event will run from Wednesday, April 20 through Saturday, April 30. Last year we had to extend the event, and we'll be more than happy to do that again this year if it's found necessary. But for now, think of those 11 days as the slotted event week.

Now, for those wondering-especially new players-there will be another AU plotting post, and not only will you be able to plot things out with everyone, but we'll be providing more details about the event itself there. We're going to wait until the end of the application cycle before posting it, but it should be up either on Friday or Saturday evening. So go ahead and start brainstorming! Also, even if you've already started plotting, things can change around; especially with characters still coming in. If you need to make any changes, or have a new idea, go ahead and work on it! The only "deadline" so to speak would be the week of the event.

So take this week to finalize all your plotting so you know what you'll be doing once the event starts!

And don't forget, next week's AU event is an optional event. Characters do not have to be affected.

And that's it for this week. If you have any questions or concerns, just comment here!
