[A rather bedraggled and muddy England slumps down onto a hotel bed with a grateful sigh. Gabriel, equally muddy curls up next to him, while Smaug and Wales peer at the 'gear ( Read more... )

Ah, to stop the flooding in Olivine. The water became quite high.

Oh yeah--so that's what these trenches do? They stop water? How?

Well, they channell the water away from the buildings. Give it a place to run to so it doesn't do as much damage. And hopefully the water stops before it overflows.

Ah, that's good to hear. Flooding is not pleasant to contend with. It's been practically raining fish here.

[He smiles slightly. Ah, he does miss his seafaring days sometimes.]

It's very beautiful. I've always been fond of the ocean. I've done a lot of sailing in my time.

Everywhere, really. I've crossed the Atlantic, the Indian ocean, Mediterranean. Spent some time in the Pacific.

{Have a very solemn Nanao finishing that sentence for you, England.}

Too much like the War. I know the feeling.

[He blinks at her, a little taken aback by the frank answer and anticipation of his thought.]

Ah, yes, well. It was an unpleasant few years. How did you...?

{Shrugging.}

I was there. For both of them. And yes, it was most definitely the most unpleasant place I have ever been.

[Well, that's an interesting bit of information.]

Ah, I see. That makese sense. I can think of fewer worse places.

[A rather tired China is not far behind. He leans against the doorway. He hums to himself at England's first remark.]

For me, it was almost as though I was back at railroads, aru. Minus all the water. [He shook his head.]

I don't see any need to rush back to Violet, the gym won't be going anywhere. [He smiles a little.] Olivine is a beautiful city when the weather is clear, aru.

Water just makes everything worse somehow. I should be used to it but... [He shrugs].

I suppose that you're right. It would be nice to see some of the city when it isn't half drowned and it makes a change to the time spent in Cherrygrove.

Yes, but it is the element that brings life, aru. Everything has its positive and negative sides.

[China smiles, but he continues to lean against the doorway.]

For the most part, all the cities past Violet are bigger. Plus Olivine is a seaside town, so there's usually a nice sea breeze on sunny days, aru. Also, I heard from locals that the lighthouse is powered by a single Pokemon, aru.

Very philosophical. The ocean is a harsh mistress and you cannot tame her. It's futile to try. All you can do is hope.

[He's seen nearly every side of the sea at some point, but it is the violence which always stays with him.]

I can try to get some supplies then. I doubt I'll get much training done here but some time to relax after all of this... well, it would be nice.

Have you been to the Lighthouse? It sounds impressive for one Pokemon to do that.

Digging the trenches wasn't pleasant, but at least it helped with the flooding. [He's curious about England's reaction, but eventually chalks it up to exhaustion.]

Don't push yourself too hard. There are other volunteers still in Olivine--hey, I bet you could even find a traveling companion when you're ready to head back.

It did. I'm glad that we could do something. [Floods were always unpleasant and brought more problems with them.]

[He smiles slightly at the warning and nods.]

I've done worse in my time. Just not used to getting tired so quickly.

That's not a bad idea. I'll see what China thinks. I might stay around for a while. I'm in no hurry to go anywhere.

How are you doing?
