She's one tough ol' driveway

Got called early this morning to hear that the crew was headed out to take out the driveway. Soon three young men arrived and started in, only to find out that this 55 year old piece of concrete was not going without a fight. The jackhammer was fairly small and no match for her until they found her weak spot. Now she is almost torn up ( Read more... )

I remember tearing out a portion of our driveway back in IL. When you discover that rebar is laced through the entire thing, a "couple hour" job becomes a two-day affair. I also remember somewhat ruefully my father's miscalculation as to how much concrete a dump truck can actually haul. Much less than the bed can hold, to be sure.

Amazingly enough, there was no rebar in this concrete. I think because it is so old and was SO thick!

I'm getting pavers so I am very excited to see how it looks. And I am really glad I hadn't gotten around to spreading more dirt than I had or started to plant out front...they have been moving the new dirt and had the bob cat on part at one point!
