Ah, so Nei'ess was ready to talk and in good company at least; he had nearly forgotten that 'Vanadevi' was Nei'ess' name for Micas. No need to soften introductions then. Rory heeded Nei'ess' request, treading lightly as he entered the shrine room, doing his best to ignore the way it made him feel, the annoyance it churned in his gut ( ... )

Nei'ess didn't even bother to open his eyes when Rory entered. The only physical reaction to the man's presence was a slightly whimsical smile at Rory's mildly annoyed expression. This room was a comfort to him, a reminder of Gods who had played active roles in the lives of their people. He did not expect the others to understand why it mattered so much to him.

I asked her if she wished to relocate somewhere else, but she declined. Apparently, she doesn't like sleeping alone for fear of the cold. I wasn't going anywhere any time soon, so I offered my services as a source of heat. It is quite comforting, actually. The words appeared clear and crisp in the air. His phrasing was formal, but not the irritated speech it had been before. It must have been hard to read someone who had the body language of a statue and the voice of a novel.

I was aware of your departure. You would not seek me out like this unless you had some specific request in mind. Honestly, I'm surprised you chose to speak to me about such things at all, but ( ... )

Something about Nei'ess' small grin had 'cat that caught the canary' written all over it, slight though it had been. Rory couldn't place his finger on it, but was otherwise very grateful for Nei'ess' open and willing demeanor. It was rather temperate around here, so Micas' fear of cold could indicate a medical condition, or otherwise physiology difference. There was enough about her that was unlike anything he'd ever seen, after all.

"Well, as long as she's alright..." Rory made a mental note to bring them a blanket or two before he left that floor. "I appreciate your cutting to the quick, Nei'ess. I will ask once a few things are out of the way. First of all, are you aware of the newcomer, X'enodrove? He is docile by nature, but has the potential to be a great danger. You need to know the specifics."

I met him. Were you aware of what form he arrived in? Nei'ess reached out a hand without turning towards Rory, an illusion playing out over it silently. The images showed Tyr and X'eno fighting and Nei'ess' interference. He dropped his hand when it reached the point of X'eno clothing himself. He claimed to be a servant himself and cursed. I do not believe he intends any harm but unintentional harm can be just as bad. Have I missed anything?

Nei'ess actually opened his eyes, glancing at Rory. I cannot tell who to trust here. There is no one I can turn away but how can I protect my people? How do I even know who my people are? The lack of direction is rather disconcerting at times.

Rory watched the scene unfold, bemused awe glancing his following smile. Point one was that the others were already aware of X'enodrove's unfortunate condition. Point two, which was coming up fast on point one and would most likely usurp, was the way Nei'ess had handled the situation. It was almost marvelous to watch. Rory would liked to have said he was proud of the kid, but did that sentiment apply? What had he invested in the boy that gave him right to be proud? Did friendship alone count for enough ( ... )
