"Oh my God," Sierra murmured. "That must have been terrifying. . . I'm- I hate to say it, but I'm almost glad you're safe here, and not still back there. Though I wish there was a way you could be safe home and not in the same place you were." She did pick up on the clue of 'baby's father' and not 'husband'. "Your family must be so worried about you."

"Here, let me take a look at those. If I can't get the lock to pop I can drill through the hinge. Easier and safer than trying to cut the metal so close to your wrists."

Tina put her hands out to Sierra to give her access to the cuffs. She looked down at them feeling a bit overwhelmed again. "It was horrible. I am not sure quite what was happening in those last few moments, but...well, Odessa says that people who show up here would be dead had they stayed where they were."

She looked up at Sierra, curiosity sparking in her eyes. "Is that true? How did you end up here?" She blushed and looked back down. "If it's not too much to ask, that is. I know there are things I don't want to try and remember right now. I imagine it might be the same for you."

"I don't know how true that is, but we certainly can't disprove that theory," Sierra admitted with a small frown, taking a piece of wire to the lock on one wrist.

"As for myself:" she paused a moment. "Our city was under attack. By a huge monster over 70 stories tall. The Saphire Weapon. I was working on the Mako pressure regulation mainframe for the Mako Cannon. We'd gotten one good shot off, but it wasn't enough to stop it. We were trying to charge the cannon again as quickly as we could, but we overloaded the system. We. . . didn't actually have windows to see the situation outside. I was on the phone with Rufus to tell him we had given it all we could, but it was probably enough for another shot. And then I guess the pressure chamber exploded. Something did, anyway. And when I woke up again I was on a rooftop, here. There was a voice-mail from my cousin on my phone asking if I was okay."

"But of course it's not connected to the network here." With a soft 'chick' the first of the cuffs released.

"It sounds like your family is worried about you too." Tina sighed with relief as the cuff was removed from her wrist. "That feels so good. It's been days since those were off."

She turned thoughtful. "I suppose we really don't have a good way of testing the theory. I mean, in my case the guy was acting odd and threatening, but I hadn't actually been harmed physically. I was mostly scared he'd hurt the baby."

She put her free hand on Sierra's shoulder. "For you it sounds a lot clearer. I'm sorry. You probably had a lot of friends there, working with you."

Sierra shook her head, taking the wire piece to the second cuff. "I'm not convinced that I would have died. Not then, anyway. I've seen Mako compressors malfunction and even explode, and they are only large explosions when there is actually Mako in them, like when we had the terrorists destroying Reactors in Midgar earlier in the year, or the accident at Gongaga. Part of the problem we were having, though, was that pressure kept failing because there wasn't enough Mako to keep the chamber full before we forced it into the cannon. We were overstressing the machinery, and running it dry. Any explosion would have been just mechanical, not Mako powered, and I remember I was walking away from the machines, trying to find a place where I could actually hear my cousin on the phone. There was clearly enough time after I got knocked out for my cousin to call my phone again and leave a message before I ended up here, and when I woke up I was shaken but not injured. A- Other people have shown up with open wounds. . . But again, it's not ( ... )
