The trip back to the fountain had been boring. Booooorriiiing!
In order to alleviate the feeling, Ni'ci had taken to amusing herself in the back of the cart by burrowing tunnels through an old blanket that had been tossed in the back. Her giggles were muffled to the outside as she followed the folds and twisted herself into the corners like a worm. It was only when the forward motion of the cart stopped, and the chimes ceased their notes, that she began working her way back out. If the kitty-man had stopped then there must be something interesting going on!
She wiggled her way up until only a thin layer of the worn blanket was left between her and the air above. Through the loose weave of the old fabric she could see the shapes of several big people and hear their voices. Finding a small hole she pulled at it with her fingers, and even used her sharp little teeth, to make it bigger. Finally satisfied, she poked her head through and looked around to see what was going on.
"He's lost lucidity," Phantasy reported in a worried voice as Robin pulled Ghost away from her and Flicker. She stood for a moment, just looking at the empty-seeming tree as she heard Flicker speak behind her, greeting Linex and thanking her. She mumbled some vague reply as she knelt down and leaned against the tree, trying to find brain-waves within the dense living tissue.
There was a low, understated hum, a simple sensation of life without any complications of conscious or unconscious thought. A feeling of warmth and comfort surrounded it all, not any specific reassurance, just a permeating sense of well-being. Deeper, quiet, almost inaudible, was the slightest flicker of a mind.
Taking that as his queue, Linex walked over, offering a smile to Phatnasy.
"The Bug is fine. She got bored and is currently amusing herself in the blanket" He said, then turned to Phantasy offering reassurance with both words and a smile. He couldn't say 'it'll be alright' because those were empty words, lying words the labs used, or tell not to worry, "Ghost is so strong... if anyone can pull through it's him." slowly he rested a hand on her shoulder, preparing to be shook off. He... really wasn't much of a toucher... Mara'd neverl et him live down fainting after her kiss, but... Phantasy looked like she needed it.
Robin stepped out of the tree, leaving Ghost within it. He leaned back against it again, a look of irritation on his face. "I can do little in this light," he admitted. "It will be slow. Perhaps as long as a solar cycle. Or, the length that I remember one in my home."
"Galloping bollockitis! A year? I don't think that will sit too well with the Lady. Of course, if that saves his life, it's better than dying." Sam looked over at Linex and the tranced Phantasy. She was trying so hard. It looked like Linex had her welfare in mind for now, though. That left Flicker available to see about the other wandering folk.
Flicker reached into the blanket in the cart and gently untangled Ni'ci. He lifted her up to eye level and smiled at the little fairy. "You got back safe and sound! I missed you, flutterby. Did you find anything nifty?" He nestled her into the lavender hat that was Kitty.
He turned to face Robin. "You know, once Ghost gets stable enough to come back out for a little, we could get another healer in to see what they can do. Maybe we can speed things up for him." Then he frowned. "Oh, I hate to be a bother, but Rosa, the girl I brought back, she just up and disappeared on us in the middle of all this. Can you tell where she is? Richie went looking for her."
