Greetings to all.  My name is Rachel and while not new to the craft, I am normally very cautious on whom i speak to about it.  I am 22 and currently going into the military.  I grew up in a very very christian family and say i've been shunned since coming out of the "closet" is a nice way of putting it.  I have been practicing for about 6 years now ( Read more... )

Oh, dear... how awful for you, and how ignorant and pathetic your family must be to drive out one of their own daughters over a matter of religion.

I hope this community offers you some good fellowship.

Blessed be.

My family just doesn't understand. We can talk as long as its not about religion and they're getting better about it, but they still have a long way to go about accepting me for who and what i am. Thank you for everything.

Merry meet, welcome! I'm lucky enough to not have a conservative family, but I'm from Texas so there are definitely a lot of other people I know that I'm careful about discussing it with, so I know how that is. I hope you enjoy being in this group, there are a lot of good people here. :)

Actually I was born in Texas, San Antonio to be exact. Thank you so much for the welcome.

Welcome! Hopefully now that you're kind of stepping out of that situation and embarking on a whole new (military) life, you'll be more comfortable with being open about your spirituality - if you choose.

What branch are you joining? I'm a fairly new member of the US Air Force, currently in tech school in Texas. If you're going into the AF, I think you'll be pleased with the wide variety of Sunday services available to trainees at Lackland. The Wicca services were great! If you're not AF, I'm sure the other BMT bases offer similar things. Sacred Well is an organization that tries to make pagan and Wicca services available to every military member everywhere.

Thank you and I am going into the Army probably going through basic at Fort Jackson South Carolina. Thank you for the information i will definitly take a look into. I'm getting better about stepping out and letting people know and if you ever take a step in my house it would be hard to hide, but I normally only discuss it with the people i know very well. BTW thank you for your own contribution to the American Freedom.
