How do you stay in touch with your spirituality if you're dealing with mental illness?

Wondering if any of the mentally ill witches here can give me some insight into how to not let my illness make me lose touch with my spirituality. I'm bipolar, and I'm often severely depressed. I've had the idea of doing a ritual when I'm depressed just because I'm so happy and hopeful when I'm doing a ritual, but the truth is I don't feel ( Read more... )

I do journal and that helps. Mediation isn't something I've tried but maybe it would help.

if you find it difficult use music and a timer. if you have a smart phone try the insight timer app :). I find it very helpful :)

I am seeing both a therapist and a psychiatrist for meds. I really like my therapist, but meds have never gotten me anywhere. I've been on meds since I was 15 years old (I'm 34 now) and I've been on a million different things, and none of them have ever helped. My friends always insist there's something out there that can help me, but after being on so many different things with no success it's hard to not get jaded, you know?

I like your vision board idea. I'm going to try that. I have a bulletin board that I put encouraging pictures I've found online onto but I think doing this in addition to that could be helpful.

I also have bipolar disorder, and I struggle with feeling spiritually connected when I'm depressed or anxious as well. I don't really have any words of advice, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone ( ... )

I think I will see about the guided mediation thing since two of y'all recommended it. And yes physical self-care is something I really neglect when I'm depressed too. It's hard to manage to do any of that, but I think you're right that it makes a big difference.
