Everyday spellcasting

So I mainly do my spellwork on sabbats because I believe things are likely to be more effective then because the energy is so strong. I don't really have too much experience doing it in between, but I have an observation day on Tuesday determining whether I'm going to get a job I really want and I'd like to do some good luck work. So I'm curious, ( Read more... )

spells, ritual, raising energy

I expect that should depend on whatever you're most comfortable with. Personally, I'm a very casual spellcaster and I only cast a circle when I have a fairly formal structure in mind (though I make a habit of grounding and centering, of course. Since you generally do spellwork on sabbats and this will be breaking your routine, it may flow better if you go ahead with all of your other traditions, ie. casting the circle in whatever manner you're accustomed to. Good luck!

Myself, I was always taught that the Full Moons were a more appropriate time for spellwork, since the magickal focus of the Sabbats is to turn the Wheel. In that vein, the next Full Moon is Thursday (in the US central time zone, at least), and something else I was taught was that events could be observed plus or minus three days of their actual occurrence. So, you could hold a Full Moon ritual on, say, Monday night, and perform your spellwork then. That way it would retain the same "feel" as your Sabbat spellcasting (and part of the point of ritual in general is to trigger sub- or un-conscious/astral memories of What's Supposed to Happen, so keeping in line with what you've already established for your practice is a Good Thing).

It's in the eye of the beholder, really. I specifically DON'T do magic or spellwork on Sabbats, preferring to celebrate the mythology of the holy day unto itself. Haven't really found that Sabbats have stronger energy than any other day.

That said, I rarely do a circle casting for spellwork. My most effective work is spontaneous, not based on day or moon phases or whatever.... it's when I feel the need rising, pure and simple. The emotion behind a spell is what gives it its strength.
