OTOH, A Day in the Death is still brilliant.

Question, though. It strikes me as a very... Owen episode, not just because of the doctor theme, and other than Dead Man Walking it doesn't feel adapted at least in parts, one character substituted for the other. There are no glitches like the 'code for the alien morgue' there ( Read more... )

To me the key to what would have been done with dead!Ianto has always been that awkward, awkward dance with Jack in "Something Borrowed."

But that was filmed after the switch wasn't it? Or at least Owen is wearing the bandage from when he broke his fingers in the episode.

But I agree, I always had a hard time imagining what their relationship could/would have been like with undead!Ianto. On the one hand at least on some theoretical level it could have been really interesting, two people who both have such difficulties talking to each other suddenly being left with nothing else but to talk, and with half a season still to go it might have been interesting to see them struggle through it, but on the other hand I can't really see it work. On the third hand they apparently had the scripts and everything, so it must have made sense to someone at the time.
