HALP!

WTH?! ~_~ For some strange reason I couldn't open Firefox all morning. It just disappeared two seconds after I opened it and didn't pop up again. It took me two hours of de-installing and re-installing various versions until I managed to get it to run again and now when I opened it again in the afternoon, it wouldn't start! I tried everything and ( Read more... )

Nope, never tried Opera but I downloaded it and I'll try it out tonight. Just two minutes ago FF closed unexpectedly again and wouldn't even open from the desktop but I can get around it by opening a html-page from the explorer but it's somewhat stupid to do it every time that stupid thing crashes (well, it doesn't crash exactly... it just disappears ><;;). I just don't want to lose all my bookmarks T_T

I had similar problems, but busted them with a combination of NoScript, Fasterfox and Adblock for Firefox. That might work for you as well?

(although Firefox works better on the laptop than on the desktop... which I'd blame on the system being two years old quite soon. I should wipe it already *sigh*)

Hm... yeah, maybe I should try that. I thought I had the problem eliminated but then *whoosh* - everything gone again, just a few minutes ago -_-;; And my system is almost five years old, with just one wipe about four years ago. I suck, I know ^^;; But so far I always managed to get around de- and re-installing the whole OS. I'm not even sure the DVD still works O_o

I usually kill off the OS once per year... but unfortunately I skipped this last year. So this installation is two years in the making, and it's very, very obvious.

I should probably put more RAM into it and check it then *sigh*

I inquired my father unit re: OS CD, because I'm not entirely sure mine still works, what with all the shuffling around and restacking I do. Unfortunately this ended in me having to stay in that house for a few days mid-February, gah >_>;

Do you happen to know if

a) A re-install of a pretty early version of XP (pre-SP 1) also works from the CD/DVD if the OEM of the computer is not the same as on the packaging of the install-disc anymore (don't ask how this happened because I don't remember how and why I changed it... and unfortunately neither how I can change it back)?

b) A re-install would kill the (quite illegal) visual style overrides?

Because those are the things I worry most. Everything else is backed up on DVDs or is located on other partitions/external harddrives anyway.
