I'm not tech savvy at all and people who think only those who are are the only ones on the Internet are the idiots. The Internet is used by practically everyone and it has become a lot more user friendly than in the past (Lordy, I remember being on Prodigy BB's).
Places such as these are used by the general public the majority of whom are either teenagers or in their 20's (there are a few notable exceptions). So it's very important to word any official notices and whatnot in plain English.
Recently my dad wanted to read his emails. None of his passwords worked, he tried to log into his account several times. Then I told him that he's on the log-in page of a completely different email server than the one he's normally using. It didn't even remotely look like his log-in page (even with the log-in button on the other side), but he hadn't noticed. So yeah, I can definitely agree - using the Internet is no sign of understanding it.
People saying that if you don't understand the technical speak in the original post, then you're an idiot.
just chiming in with, i could not agree with you more. my default response is always, no, i'm not an idiot, i'm a research biophysicist working in a particularly troublesome area in human immunology. i can understand very complex concepts. maybe this fairly simple concept is being badly explained to me.
