May Movie Madness

Those of you who've known me for at least a year know that for me, housesitting means overdosing on movie viewing. Which is good, since I don't watch near enough during the rest of the year, being the TV whore I am. This is TV too, since I'm watching movie channels, and it's like these awesome little two-hour shorts presented in a format I like (TV ( Read more... )

I've decided that Aniston is one of the more underrated actresses around. She pulls off her stuff really well. She was a natural for the role she played on Friends, but she's demonstrated she has a great deal more range than that.

Why are you mad at her for that love triangle? If anything, she was the jilted lover in the whole mess, wasn't she? Not that I care all that much. lol

As for The Da Vinci Code, the book is fun because it explains the codes and symbols in a way that you learn a great deal about their use and history. And there were some subtle plot changes from the book to the movie that really impact how the reader thinks of some of the characters (particularly Bishop Aringarosa).

That makes sense about Aniston. About the love triangle: I'm a longtime Angelina Jolie fan, and while there might have been some weirdness in how the Aniston/Pitt relationship ended, I didn't think it merited all the rumours and dragging Angelina's name in the mud that happened. Moreover, I found Aniston's cry-y media interview persona around that time grating and annoying. I fully admit to a Jolie bias, but it's nice to see that Aniston is starting to annoy me less now when I see her in things. :)

That would be a good reason to read the book, for the codes and history and such. I like that stuff. Thanks!

I haven't seen the movie, but for the book version of The DaVinci Code... One of the worst stories I've ever read. Seriously amateurish writing, terrible pacing, ridiculously flat characters... Just awful on any kind of technical level. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but a lot of people get the backstory and the actual story confused and think that because they were intrigued by what the author had to say, they decided that the writing was good. It really, really wasn't. But it's possible the movie version was better because the actors were able to compensate for the weakness of the writing...

And yes, Atlantis is startlingly good. I think it's probably because it's a spinoff... Most of the people involved already had the experience with SG1 and had a lot fewer growing pains adapting to Atlantis than you normally get with a new show. There were a few tweaks that needed to happen (like Ford) but even the first season really hit the ground running.

Interesting. If I read the book, I won't hold high expectations for the writing then.

Makes sense about Atlantic. The episode I watched was the one where they had to move the whole (station?) into the water, and then they flew it away from the planet, entered hyperspace and then got stranded in the middle of nowhere (Voyager!). Was that the season finale, or just a two-part episode? I have to download the second part if the latter.

I can never remember whether I'm a Trekkie or a Trekker. I'm whichever one it is that can't remember which one she is! IIRC, one of those two gets really incensed when you call them the other one, and that's the one I'm NOT. I'm guessing that means I'm a Trekkie, from what you've said here!

I REALLY need to get me a Star Trek icon! WTF! I'm always saying that, and still no Star Trek icon. I should go hunting!!

So is the movie Trekkies the one that had William Shatner in it that had an actual story to it, or is it the documentary one? I get those two confused. And I can't remember what the other title is. LOL. I'm useless today!!

I'll have to find that movie about the Maritimes and watch it!

You're a Trekkie. Trekkers are the snotty people who think they're better than people who deign to call themselves Trekkies.

I have a couple (literally two) ST icons on my computer (or temporarily misplaced on some discs). If I can find them I'll share!

No, Trekkies was the documentary. Funny that they called it "Trekkies" instead of Trekkers, since many of the people they talked to talked about being Trekkers and by the definitions these people were given, that would have been a more appropriate title for the documentary. (This is my way of saying, "See? Even the producers agree with me!" ;)

Do you Netflix? If so, maybe you could order it for when I'm down and we could watch it?

I haven't seen any of those movies! Bruce Almighty looks like it would be fun. Let me know what you think of the book when you read it, esp. compared to the movie!
