Summary: If Roxas had a heart, it would belong to Axel, right? At least, that’s what Axel figures when he takes the younger Nobody for a quiet snowy walk in the woods.

“Kiss me.”
Axel’s foot fell easily through a drift of snow and he glared with bemusement at Roxas as he pulled himself out and shook slush from the hem of his coat.
“What?”
“Isn’t that mistletoe?” Roxas muttered, tilting his chin upward just so. Axel looked.
“I don’t think so.” He frowned.
In the dimming sunset he could vaguely see a bunch of greenery, hanging out of place in the nearly bare branches of the trees, not quite above his head. It was probably pretty cold, but he couldn’t feel it. Nor could Roxas. But he’d brought them both to the snowy place, promising to show Roxas what Christmas looked like, and to kiss him under some mistletoe. Surprisingly, Roxas had agreed, even expressed some interest at the mention of a kiss.
“Hey, Roxas,” Axel began hesitantly. “If you had a heart... would you share it with me?”
Roxas half shrugged. “What do you mean?” he asked, stubbornly innocent.
Axel pushed him off the faded path into the clearing, the brightly colored doors on the ring of older trees just as mysterious as the first time they’d seen it. That time they hadn’t dared open any of the doors.
“I mean... would you love me?”
Roxas’s expression was unreadable. “If I had a heart,” he reasoned at last, “I would share it with you. Because you’re my best friend. And I’d love you.” He looked a little mystified at his own conclusion. “If I loved you, would you love me back?”
There was something demanding and at the same time pleading in his tone, so Axel relaxed. Of course they had hearts.
“I’d love you back,” he assured the younger Nobody, putting a hand on his shoulder. Roxas didn’t look up, but rather to the door shaped like a festive green tree, trimmed with color, it’s knob a pure gold circle. Axel followed his gaze, and they waited for a moment until a cluster of soft snowflakes drifted out of the blueblack of the virgin night sky.
“I want to see what Christmas looks like,” Roxas murmured.
The door swung open easily, and though Axel knew it was cold and he couldn’t feel cold, he could feel some kind of warmth coming from inside, and he felt bright as his own fire. Roxas was trembling slightly, and though he didn’t meet Axel’s eyes when he said he wanted to find some mistletoe first, Axel knew he was imagining what a kiss would be like, and hoping just that it would be like having a heart and sharing it.
