The door's open, but there's a whiteboard propped on a box in the hallway next to it that says,

"Last night in 406 before I move down to the first floor. Wander in if you want, unless you're a vampire. There's foodity. ~Xander (the one without the accent)"
Inside, Xander's desktop is pretty much empty of everything but a selection of snacks and ( Read more... )

"Hey, new kid. Whose name is Greg if my roomie is to be believed. We are in fact mocking stupid drunk people." Xander nudged an elbow towards the desk. "It is possible that there are items lying around that could turn some of us into stupid drunk people, but if so, they were brought in by some random stranger and I take no responsibility for them."

"I don't drink, anyway - once you know too much about what happens to the human body under the influence, alcohol loses its appeal," Greg said with a smirk as he meandered in and sat down. "And yes, I'm Greg. Not even an alias or anything."

"I'm Xander. One of two now, but I'm the one who lives here. For the rest of tonight, anyway." Xander grinned ruefully and glanced toward the desktop. "And... you'd think I'd know too much from personal experience. And yet. Though not actually drinking tonight; just pointing out that in theory it might be there."

"So are you one of the seniors sticking around for the summer?" Greg asked, running a hand through his hair and making it stick up even more.

Xander nodded. "Yup. Moving down to the first floor tomorrow, with the rest of the stickees, so this is the last night with my roomie. Tomorrow I magically turn into a grownup." He snickered. "Or not."

Greg snapped his fingers. "You're the Xander teaching that one thing."

"That one thing?" Xander stared for a second, then laughed. "I guess I must be, since the other Xander's a new kid and therefore not teaching anything."

"I haven't met the other Xander," Greg mused. "But yeah. I almost signed up for your thing, since, um, helping people's kind of what I want to do and stuff. If you go for, um, a really broad use of 'help.'"

Xander cocked his head. "What's a really broad use of help?"

"Forensics," Greg supplied. "Or biochemical research."

Xander raised an eyebrow. "Whoa. Yeah, that's a little above and beyond the scope of That One Thing. Though I can see how it would be a team-y kind of job."

"It's team-y, yeah," Greg said. "But it's kind of similar in that forensic pathologists, chemists, lab technicians - they stay behind while the cops and actual detectives do the shiny stuff, you know?"

Xander gave a rueful grin. "Fray-adjacent would be the term we use for it. But yeah, that's the kind of thing I'm thinking of really. Not that I can teach anybody how to analyse DNA samples, but that'd be like, one example of a support team member. Science Guy."

"Can't put the pieces together if you don't have the microscopic details, right?" Greg said. "Anyway. What are we even watching?"

"Real World: Springfield - this is the episode where they all did the hot tub thing, I think. With the strategically-placed rubber ducks."
