Prior rarely encountered anyone at the pool below the waterfall. Maybe because the water was colder than the sea, or maybe because it was a bit of a hike through the jungle, but whatever the reason, it was private, and he liked that. Especially now that Guy was with him ( Read more... )

Nothing happened during the trip. No hallucinations; no island trick, no lunacy. Still he did give a private sigh of relief when they reached the water.

"I used to swim in the Cam." He replied. "Positively glacial. This can't be worse."

Guy had seemed rather on edge during their walk to the waterfall, and Prior was relieved to see that he seemed to be relaxing. The swim (and other activities) would help, he thought.

He took off the rest of his clothes and stood for a moment by the edge of the pool, enjoying the feeling of the waterfall spray and sunlight on his bare skin. "After you," he said, gesturing at the water.

Oh yes, the swim and other activities would definitely be very helpful.

Guy undressed as well, and after a polite gentlemanly nod came a very ungentlemanly splash into the water. There truly was nothing like it. He stayed submerged for a moment - enjoying the peculiar silence - before resurfacing.

Prior dove in after him, plunging deep into the clear green water, almost to the bottom. Diving deep was risky, because he couldn't hold his breath for very long, but he missed the exhilarating terror of the battlefield, and this sort of thing was as close as he could get.

He swam upward through a cloud of brightly-colored fish and surfaced, gasping. "I'm always worried some of these fish might try to bite my bits off," he said, wiping water from his eyes.
