what the hell is this noise

Let’s play everybody’s favourite new game, “what the hell is this noise?”!

It’s captured on a live mic in a quiet recording studio; the sound is not audible in the room itself. I’m really curious if it sounds familiar to anyone, and reminds them of anything other than ground loop:

I once had an old tube TV, A dumster scrounge. Channel 6 sounded somewhat like this. Later I got an old 'Transworld' running alongside, somesort of chassis loop between the two tuned in the FM carrier so I could hear what it was.. A local beeper service signal.

So thats my guess: some sort of Data Radio Signal that's strong enough to couple with your mic.. Does it have an active amp in it?
Cabs are using computer dispach now. Do they have terminals in them as well?

Ha! Yes, I have heard of this problem before! IIRC, they ended up moving those signals for new licenses because of this exact problem, but as of... five? years ago, maybe? There were still a few around down there, running on old licenses.

There's a known phenomenon in the Seattle area that matches what you're getting. Many people have commented on an inexplicable low frequency hum. I think Tony has the same issue at his place.
