Over the last few days, I’ve realised there’s a studio toy I really want, but can’t quite find. If I can’t find it, maybe I can build it - or maybe that should be the other way ’round, eh? Regardless, maybe some of you guys can help.

You could go with an I-pac or U-HID. As far as I can tell, the only reason to go with a U-HID is if you wanted to hook up an analog knob or something. You can probably put something together based on the I-pac 2 for close to the price of the Logitech thingy. And they are definitely "configure once and forget about it" boards; the documentation claims that programming a button to send "ctrl" then "r" will work as expected, but I can't personally vouch for it.

I ended up finding out there is an even cooler solution. I'll post about that tomorrow. Or later today, depending upon your clocks. ^_^
