Not the Post You Were Expecting

So I don't really give a fuck about the No More Basic Accounts thing, since my primary accounts have been paid for a while now, and anyway they were all created before the deadline so it doesn't matter for them. I was planning to post about the awesome time I had hanging out with mayatawi and how much I'm enjoying Season 3 of House. Unfortunately, I can't ( Read more... )

While I'm not going to raise a pitchfork about the basic account thing (mostly because I know it will do no good), you can't really separate it out from the censorship issue and here's why. One of Livejournal's founding stances was that there would be no ads on accounts; by removing that, you're removing a trust that's been between us and the owners of LJ and indeed, SUP? Has said they don't have to honor any agreements made by previous owners of LJ. Which I call bullshit on but unfortunately what it means is that no, they don't have to respect us and yes, they can censor us out of existence. Because they don't care about fanfiction or being a home to which means they're going change the format out from under all of us.

I had a feeling something was going to happen when they rewrote their TOS again for a third time a few months back. Have you read it all the way through? If not, I recommend the read. >__>

I guess I just don't see what the big deal is about censoring interests. They're just interests, it's not like those topics will cease to exist on LJ altogether, you just won't be able to search for them as easily. Which, yeah, they're jerks for doing it, but they aren't DELETING those things from existence. Sex, smut, yaoi, etc all still exist.

Somebody tell me why it's a big deal because obviously I'm missing something here. I'm not a fandom person so I fail to understand. @_@
