Heyyy, there. So, I meant for my first post breaking radio silence since before the holidays to be a catch-up of my life and fandom and such and other meaningful things. I guess that is not happening because CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS NEW SCARYASS TRAILER OF THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE ( Read more... )

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

So, my brain started playing Love Shack as the trailer went on and then it broke. My brain, that is.

You do realize that when this gets released on DVD or whatever, we will have to have a vid-off. Fair warning.

I'm torn between my love for really scary things and my strong aversion to change (evil dead is bruce campbell fighting 80s special effects!) :D

So, I don't really know what to think either, with remakes I often (totally not always) feel like, "but this was good the first time around, why not make something completely new instead"? I mean, the first one wasn't campy, it was practically this with a smaller budget or am I missing something?

Mmmh, I see. I admit that it's been a while since I saw the first one. In my memory I have the second one stored under "funny horror" and the first one under "horror horror", but this may only work when regarding and comparing both movies...

I agree that the new trailer seems to indicate a very "straight" approach to horror... I'm not sure if this wouldn't make it "just another horror movie" then, no matter how well crafted it may be. I mean with regard to all the other horror movies there have been since the first evil dead came out. For me the humor was part of what made it special... I'd still love to check it out and see if it manages to really freak me out, cause I love that :)

he was attempting a "straight" horror movie, there was this weird undercurrent of humor running through it

Heh, I really think that's why he just said fuck it and made Evil Dead 2 as a do-over. If he can't fight the humor might as well go all out and let the freak flag fly.
