Doctor Who is possibly the wankiest fandom I have ever been in. And that includes Harry Potter, BtVS, and Supernatural...so that's pretty impressive. I should just stay away from general discussion forums I think.
DUDE YES! The ship wars are kinda freaking me out, so I mostly stay on the sidelines of that fandom.

And now I really feel like re-watching Alias! (I, um, haven't seen Farscape? I have most of it lying around on my harddrive, but haven't had the time yet.)

The ship wars are almost epic at this point. Maybe that comes from almost 40 years of canon & it being such an iconic thing? But then again, most of the wanky people seem to only have gotten into the show since the new version (2005)...so that can't be it.

Hmm, good point. Most of the lj fandoms are pretty new, as opposed to the epic canon of DW.

But then again, most of the wanky people seem to only have gotten into the show since the new version (2005)...so that can't be it.
Well, maybe it's because the 2005 fans are unable to reconcile their OTP notions with the fact that DW really isn't that kind of show. I mean, the doctor will move on sometimes, and his companions just can't stick around forever, no matter what the shippers want.

Its some odd fandom magic - we all do the same things without talking about it. Millions of people on the internet, and sometimes you just keep running into the same 14 people - I've gotten worried that I was accidentally stalking someone, a few years ago :)

Hopefully TW will avoid the wank with the logic that Jack wouldn't approve of ship/sexual jealousy! If Jack and be a slutty, multi-pairing character, so can the fandom?

Somewhere, I've got a copy of some article (actually published) about reasons people have given for having sex in public libraries. I used to work in interlibrary loan/library copy center, so we got some wierd stuff coming through (ie. Was Shakespeare a Repulican), but this one was hilarious.
