A Machiavellian Solution to a Herculean Problem? "Malarkey or Effective Way?" (heh heh)

* * * Note: This is another one of my hypothetical ideas that I am throwing out there for purposes of conjecture. I am not interested in the ethics of the matter, only the feasibility in this "what if" scenario. It would likely be only a temporary solution to the shortages. If one superpower stumbled then the others would probably increase their demands for those resources to they can take advantage of their rival's weakness to bolster their own global strength. And experts are now suggesting that the Arabian OPEC cartel are exaggerating their stocks and that they are reaching the limits of how much more oil they can draw out of the ground in the same way that producers in other nations are. Whatever happens, we need to replace oil as an energy source and manufacturing product soon.

Well, yes, only a temporary solution. I do think that what we are not being told is a larger beast than what we ARE being told. The whole world feels tense and skittish, like a person who has skipped a meal or two. Something is happening that I predict will gradually change our way of life, both at home and around the world. The end of unchecked progress as we know it. Every man will do well to be on the side that is winning, so to speak, and that includes becoming more self-sufficient as individuals, and have a more viable energy policy as a nation.

Indeed. And there is so much great historical fiction out there. To be sure, much of history itself reads like a novel, or a soap opera in some cases (especially nowadays). I believe it was Napoleon Bonaparte who called history "nothing more than a fable agreed upon."
