considering i would act the same way, i think it's not so much your social skillz as it is the people you are interacting with. i have few girlfriends (and it's taken me a while to build up what girl base i have) for a reason - i can be rather offensive and regardless of the orientation of these women, they are still women (read: sensitive.) so if you aren't sensitive to them or know them well enough to know what sets them off, then that's where issues like above happen
