The sea is both beautiful and powerful- it's almost electric, and you can feel so small...
Your earliest beach associations are not unlike mine. I grew up in RI, so my first impressions of "the beach" were as a place where people (other than my family) played football, tanned with oil, and gold chains, strutted, etc. Maine really connected me to the real coast.
