Fanfic - Counting Stars: Clarity [Torchwood: Ianto]

So I was re-reading Counting Stars just to refresh my memory on character interactions, and - you know what, I think my writing's evolved. At any rate, I can see some things I don't like in that behemoth - a few poorly-handled POV changes, in particular. Oh well, lessons learned will be applied in future writing. At any rate, have a one-shot from ( Read more... )

This was lovely. I think Dafydd is having his own "Aha" moment -- realizing that Ianto is all grown up. Can be hard sometimes especially if he consistently refers to Ianto as "his little brother". I actually resented Dafydd in the series, and, now, reading his perspective, I still am peeved at him, but understand him a little better - placing yourself in someone else's shoes and all that. Maybe you have to see people objectively in order to really know them -- leave out your prejudices and preconceived notions. And Dafydd is really getting and eyeful and earful in this story. But, I am glad he finally does see his brother in a new light and that he is proud of him, and I especially like that he worries about Jack as well. "Aha" moment indeed. Well done.

The rest of it is just plain homophobia, of course - the kind that's latent in society as a whole. It's Ianto's coming out that forces Dafydd to examine his ingrained prejudices, and while I don't think he'll be attending any pride parades, he's been slowly becoming more accepting (with the occasional backsliding ( ... )
