Dear players,
The staff regretfully announces the closure of the game as of July 1st.
We would like to thank you for your support during the game's run and sincerely apologize for the abruptness of this decision. We hope you have enjoyed your time at Soeldei and wish you the best. We especially apologize to those of you who are new to the game, we wish we had been able to give you a lively and active place to play and to the players who have stuck with us for this long.
Below the cut we have included several questions and their answers which we hope will better explain our decision and the circumstances leading up to it. If you still need extra clarifications, please email the staff at
soeldei@gmail.com and we will do our best to answer your concerns.
Why is Soeldei closing?
Soeldei was been designed to utilize a bigger organization than the current staff are currently able to undertake. There is a significant amount of upkeep, plotting, and recruiting that need to be done in order to keep Soeldei alive and moving. With the current response to the methods used in Soeldei to spur activity being mostly ignored, we feel that we can no longer condone continuing to run Soeldei with the expansiveness of it's design.
Why don't you redesign it / hire additional staff?
At this point in time, such an option isn't feasible for the existing members of staff. Our commitments and schedules have significantly changed from what they were when the game opened, and Soeldei is an extremely update-heavy premise. Additional mods being brought in to work on post updating would be a bit of a help, but that wouldn't solve the problem of the game premise needing constant maintenance.
Why wasn't the problem fixed before it reached this point?
Soeldei's decline has been a slow and hard to define degradation. The staff went through several changes in management style, attempting all possible avenues of keeping the game running as smoothly as possible. While it may have been behind the scenes, each member of the staff has put forward ideas and suggestions to try and keep Soeldei alive, and we've come to dead ends with each one. Continued lack of player response to scenarios, a negligence to fulfill or respond to the activity checks, and foremost, a lack of input in the mod comment box to inform us of what we can do to make things easier or more accessible to players have been only some of the challenges we've tried for six months to overcome.
But I've worked hard on my character(s) here?
We understand that there are people who have been fulfilling their requirements and obligations, and to those players we sincerely wish to convey our utmost gratitude and thanks. But to be successful, roleplays require the participation of all its members, and it is not fair to place the burden of activity on only a few.
What about letting someone else take over the game?
We are not adverse to this possibility, however we'd have to very carefully consider anyone who wanted to volunteer simply because, if we were to hand over the game we'd want to make sure it was to someone who had the time and dedication to run it -- anything less would be unfair to the players. We realize we have disappointed you, but we definitely don't want it to happen twice.
What will happen to the game now?
Regular posting will continue until July 1st, at which point the communities will be switched to closed membership. Nothing will be moved or deleted. If you'd like, you can have your characters choosing to leave Soeldei -- they all came willingly, and so willingly they should be able to leave at any time. Otherwise, the story will simply end and characters will continue to live their days on the island.
Again, the staff thanks and appreciates all the players who have given Soeldei life since it's opening. It is our hope that you will remember the good times had here and to enjoy wherever you choose to go from here.
